Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Guys , now dont start commenting on breakup figures !

Overall Corolla is still a segment leader @ 1139. Way far ahead from Civics and Cruze

Altis is almost double of Civic Volumes

Interesting figures. It is good that Fiat is back to the normal figures. By now, they have already realized that they need a sub 5 lakh rupee car and it should come soon.

Howcome only 174 units of venture have been sold? dealer dispatches? I thought TATA has 800 plus showrooms?

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

I was expecting Fiat's numbers to be even higher as buyers (including myself) would have preferred a new 2011 car while enjoying the potential benefits of a higher resale value as compared to the discounts offered in Dec that negate the lower resale value a few years down the line.

When will the Maruti juggernaut slow down ? Astounding numbers.

Is it just me or are Ford's models (except the Figo) languishing ?

-SX4 figures have almost tripled compared to previous month sales.

-i10 you beauty!! it has sold almost 6000 nos more than previous month! Brilliant!

- Aria nos are quite surprising ! For the price tag and brand name ,its selling in decent nos. Kudos to Tata!!

-Cruze is still the segment leader in C+ premium sedan segment for diesel (?)! Though Altis D is catching up.

@ karanraheja

I think Altis Still rules the c segment @ 1139 compared to cruze @ 715

Segment leader is judged by overall sales and not breakup gradewise

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Beat is ahead of the spark this month

impressive number for all maruti cars including the A star at +4k

Ford is Figoing well espicially post dec sales numbers

SantaFe in teeting problems. we should expect realistic numbers in a couple of months. 11 sonatas?

No numbers for Thar? I thought the deliveries had begun.

Nano has bounced back. Is it the 4 year warranty?

Looking forward to more numbers!

Great work GTO!

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Alto created a new record in terms of number of cars shipped to dealers in a month.

IMHO that is 1 Liter engine + VFM doing its magic.

Shipments for last few months:

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Thanks GTO.

Seems to me that most companies have done well in January 2011. Is it the new-manufacturing-year factor (Dec'10 vs Jan'11)?

That includes FIAT too. Just read on the Tata site that Fiat sales are at 2000+. Thats really good for Fiat. I am happy for them.

Indica sales have gone really high. Swift was always untouchable in the hatchback category, but Swift's 11k vs Indica's 10K is something good to see. However, the Swift numbers can take a new turn after the New Swift's launch. Let's wait and watch.

Man this DZire! I think 90% of the TBHP members would say DZire is the most ugly looking sedan in India, but seems like people also think beyond looks (DZire + Ritz).

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

My observation:

Etios: Well I expected it to clock more. Was that due to Delivery issues ???
Figo: As expected and as mentioned by me last month, Ford is back with a bang.
Ikon: Please kill the product, its not required any longer
Santro: The figures are slowly reducing month on month, I am seeing the product demise by 6 months.
Maruti: Swift and Alto : It has proved over time that only Maruti can sustain bigger sales volume, all other other manufacturers have got good products but are flopping in meeting the demand.
Nano: Good to see Nano back on form.
Vento: Has these numbers gone down? Not sure why they are still not matching the City numbers

Agreed! Since GTO had put up break up sales of Altis P & Altis D i had just compared the figures. I just meant in the diesel category the Cruze is leading.

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

It seems "Celebration offer" has worked for Honda brands, specially for City, which has clocked 1500 untis more than Vento.

Santro sales have really come down last month, may be at expense of i10. Hyundai should revamp Santro (like Wagon -R), if they want to maintain the Santro sales in the range of 8K-9K.

Looks don't mean everything when practicality is what the general consumer is going for. Ritz might not win any beauty awards but it is practical, and since it is a Maruti vehicle it also means less hassles in the long run and cheaper spares.

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

• Honda city still ruling the segment. No Vento effect on City sales. Will need to wait for SX4 diesel to see if that makes any difference to the City. IMO it won’t.
• For HM it’s the old horse, Ambassador, still providing them bread if not the butter.
• Comparatively cheaper and roomy Xylo could not cross Innova’s sales figures.
• M&M sold more Boleros than Tata sold Nano!
• Good comeback by Skoda Fabia.
• Ikon = 0?
• Looks like one day Alto will touch 50K per month sales figure.

On the flip side, I will express my happiness that Vento has made Honda reduce it's cheating efficiency on the public. ANHC was the least value for money car a quarter back. Somewhere i read recently that Honda is the only Co which has showed a negative growth for this year even FIAT although low in numbers has been positive from last year. I will try to find out the soruce and post it here if required.

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Nano - Lives

Cruz - business as usual - More expensive Laura catching up, Corolla Diesel not doing that well compared to the cruz, Corolla petrol hanging in - just, civic doing better than the corolla petrol after a long time.

Captiva - going down - news of new version coming and more options today.
Endy - Continuing in the 300's - AT factor?
Fortuner - rising to max capacity again - so is their a wait?,
Aria good initial numbers for the price - 500+ - would have been better - Where are the Advts? - Expect a blitz campaign in 2 months or so.

Beat beating the Spark - just - decent numbers - low compared to how good they actually are compared to the maruti options.
Indica rises and Indigo twins continue on.
Dzire beats Etios for apeal, advts. working.

Tavera, Sumo, Xylo and Scorpio - maintaining the trend, Innnova going from strength to strength. Safari posting real good numbers in recent times, the advts. working for it.

Icon - 0 -why keep it in the lineup?

Polo finally ahead of Vento - Production constraints helping honda city? City doing super numbers.
Fabia doing well being a polo twin in many ways it's a true comeback.

Fiat lives on - back to earlier numbers, as mentioned by me earlier, dec was just a case of not dumping pervious year stock with dealers and helping them liquidate.
