Sid, so if I am right, we are getting the 2.4 GDI petrol in India going by the 'GDI' badge in the i45 spotted here, right?

Re: *SCOOP* : New Hyundai Sonata / i45 caught testing on Bangalore-Chennai Road

This is the car that will kill the competition. Hyundai is known for excellent interiors (my 8 year old Accent still has better interiors than a new Cruze), great service. Their pricing, I feel, will be at around 19 L on road (it's around $21,000 in the US). I have a strong feeling that this car would herald the end of the road for Laura, Kizashi (at its current price), maybe even the Accord (until it's next generation release at least).

Saw this beauty on my drive from vellore to arakkonam in a SX4 P, if it was not for my train certainly would have clicked a few snaps as i was able to keep up with the cars till ranipet. I think those guys were testing those 2 white i45's. But one thing that caught my attention is the beautiful tail lamp cluster that looks stunning in dark.

Re: *SCOOP* : New Hyundai Sonata / i45 caught testing on Bangalore-Chennai Road

I saw this car near Vellore, on my way to Ooty. Didn't have a camera handy. The driver had stopped for tea at the same shop where we stopped. I just exchanged a few words with him, he said the car is due to be launched in May 2011!

It looks much more beautiful (and big) in flesh. It didn't have any cover on it, and the "i45" badge was clearly visible.

When driving I also spotted one more (possibly Hyundai) sedan which had a "CRDI" badge on the left. It was completely camouflaged and was much smaller. I think it should be the new Verna.

DWS states that the i45 will debut in H2 2011. This is contrary to the 2012 launch reports of the other sites / mags.

Pretty exciting if that is true. Anyone with some inside gyaan on this?

I have read some news earlier, in which the company spokes person mentioned that they will have two launches this year for sure and one is the Verna due in may and the other is the small car code named- H800 that wil be launched sometime during Diwali festive season. No mention about the i45 or the Avante though. So i suppose its scheduled for next year.

I hope this car comes to India soon. What a looker it is! I think it could make a debut during the Auto Expo early next year.

Re: *SCOOP* : New Hyundai Sonata / i45 caught testing on Bangalore-Chennai Road

I get to see a lot of new Sonatas and few Elantras in vietnam and boy o boy the car( sonata) looks gorgeous from all angles. I can easily say it beats the pants out of the German and Jap cars in and around the 30L price bracket easily.

The Elantra too is a stunning looking car. Both these cars look to be derived from the Hyundai sports car genesis which itself is the daddy of these cars.

Only if I had the moolah

Is Y20 the turbocharged 4 pot? Or do they have a base version? Btw, what CRDI motor do they carry now?

Re: *SCOOP* : New Hyundai Sonata / i45 caught testing on Bangalore-Chennai Road

vineethvazhayil,

The new Sonata as of now does not have a diesel motor, which is why I guess indian launch is delayed?

Someone else could throw better light on this matter but as far as I know there is no CRDI motor in it anywhere in the world till date.

Regards,

Yes, it will get the new 2 litre R series diesel, it churns out 135ps & 320 Nm torque. Hyundai have become good at their diesels and have an option for almost every model.

I thought the I45 was going to get the Santa Fe diesel. 135ps sounds too low for the segment its going to be in. My hunch is that they would initially offer only the petrol.

Re: *SCOOP* : New Hyundai Sonata / i45 caught testing on Bangalore-Chennai Road

The current Sonata transform has a 2.0 Crdi engine churning out 145 BHP bhp and 325 Nm of torque if I am not wrong. Now doesn't this engine output sound a little too low? Especially considering the 128PS 265 Nm crdi motor of the upcoming Verna? I guess the Santa Fe's stunning motor would be plonked in the i45!

Re: *SCOOP* : New Hyundai Sonata / i45 caught testing on Bangalore-Chennai Road

Apologies guys, I should have been more specific, The R series 2.0 comes in two states of tune the base 135/320 and the higher 184/392 (ps/Nm).

The reason I mentioned the lesser figure is cos Hyundai only issues the more powerful version with an auto, so I believe the standard Sonata will come with the 135ps version mated to a manual tranny.

To make things more exciting they also have a 200ps 2.2 diesel being used in the sister cos. Sorento.

Just a question, I always thought there was no diesel motor in the sonata in any market so does it mean India will be the launch region for the diesel motor or does the diesel motor already exist in any specific market?

Regards,
