Hello all,
After being here in T-BHP for a while I realize, any car you mention in the Indian market one or the other fellow bhpian owns one or two.
And there is a wealth of knowledge, shared or un-shared in the forum, and many a times I have felt the people here know a lot more than the engineers(no, I am not talking about the mechanics) of the carmakers.

Personally I have not much experience, as I own only one car, that too in my life time and it sucks (service, not the car).

In your opinion, experinace and knowledge, who is the car maker, who has really taken pain to impart the knowledge about their cars to the engineers and other personnel in the dealer ship who take care of the customer cars.
What I mean here is which company's service staff do not gve you excuses like
it is too complex to do the job,
"we are not allowed by the company to touch it",
do a shoddy job and justify by thumb rules,
U have an obvious problem and the guys ask you to change your driving style,
blame teh problem it self because there is a electronic/computer element in it,
"it is designed to work so"

I am sure there are good ones and bad ones, There are many reasons. It is hard to get knowledgable people to do "so called mechanic's " job, attrition at the gross root level of skilled workers (after trainig the guy quits)

Please list/share them with your experince..

Let your thoughts flow..

Thanks..DRC

[SIZE=2]The staff at Mercedes is really good.. right from the point where you walk into the showroom.. the customer rep knows the details of any car in their stable to the mechanics when you take it for the first service. they know their job and do it well.. i have never had a problem with them.. i really like -
1)maruti
2)hyundai
i hate
1)fiat
2)tata
3)ford
for their service,i have tried all these and through many dealers.

i hate MARUTI
i hate MARUTI
i hate MARUTI

Hyundai is the best when it comes to Service. They even provide backup cars in case the owner car is needed to be kept in workshop for more than 1 day.

All are bad....
its just that once in a while you have your lucky day and get a technically sound mechanic. (the so called supervisors know nothing!)

So it comes down to the car itself.... less problems - better the service...

FYI:

Based on Driver Power 2005 survey by Auto Express U.K,

The best automaker is Lexus on the following parameters
1) helpfulness
2) Workmanship
3) Cleanliness
4) Knowledge

No 2 is Jaguar
No 3 is Honda
No 4 is Skoda
No 5 is BMW

Suzuki comes on 8th position and hyundai on 13th position.
The driver power 2005 best car is Honda S2000.

That's a good survey rapideffect, Is there a linky?

After having had ownership experiences with almost every car maker (through the immediate family or close cousins / friends), I can tell you that Mercedes Benz is unbeatable in terms of after-sales support, knowledgeable staff, co-operation, willingness to help and quality of worksmanship. My experience with Auto Hangar has been outstanding.

Good thing, keeping in mind how many problems their recent products have :D

The second most positive experience has been with Vitesse who I consider, by far, the best Maruti dealership ever.

I couldn't find it there, but I have the PDFs downloaded for both driver power 2005 and tyre power 2005. If needed I can mail this to you seperately, but it's too heavy.

Otherwise search over there at http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/

I second the thoughts of SLK. Lesser the problems, lesser the need for service and they will quite obviously do it properly.

If the car needs more maintenance and there are so much in queue, the service personnel might obviously will think only to dispose of the current issue as fast as possible and in the process giving our car a shoddy service.

:thumbs up Surya

SLK, I tend to agree with your statement. All are bad, even the car maker with largest service network, sucks..
My greater question was how knowledgable the guys whom you deal with. It may be true, we find a very intelligent engineer or mechanic and yet refuses to move his but.

Largely, which manufacturer has a good process in place to ensure that their products go into well trained people after the sale

Let the thought flow..
Again, If any of you are closely associated with the dealerships of any brand and know about their procedurers to ensure this, do let me know

So far, I had interacted with 5 Maruti dealerships and I can tell you 4 out of 5 are absolute dumb or have very little knowledge. Maruti service sucks a big time. But yeah, I agree that it all depends on the number of problems your car have.
