HM has quietly unveiled the 2011 Ambassador Grand (normal size) with the following changes:colous:Car is available at dealerships now.
Seen the power point yesterday but yet to receive the e-mail from HM. Will post the pics if I get the mail soon.

Had read that there would be a number of different variants available and also an introduction of a smaller Amby.
This could be one of them.

Drilled metallic pedals, in an Amby? :Shockked:
Instead of doing all these gimmicks, HM can just make sure that they modernize the car a little bit without loosing it's character. A wasted effort, yet again from HM.

The car is BS4, has MPFI 1.8 isuzu, 5 speed gearbox, power windows, central locking, mobile charger, rear AC vents, leather and the exterior shape is the same..isn't it modernized? Don't ask me about size of those pedals though.

thanks sid for the details. if correct, 2011 Ambassador top variant is priced at Rs 7.03-lakhs (on-road, bangalore). Also they might offer with Metallic paint.

Agreed, it has all that Sid, but will you go and buy one today? I think the answer is No.

I personally feel that HM needs to re-design the Amby completely. Even if HM provides it with all the bells and whistles which are upto current standards and offered in other cars today, its the external image that needs a change, big time. Only, then they can expect more buyers for the Amby.

Believe me, love the Amby, but everytime I see one, it reminds me of an age-old design that should have been updated (not just head-lights & tail-lights) years ago.

I had always been a great fan of this car and its good to know that it just got better with these additions. Also if I have 5+ lakhs to spare for a third vehicle in my Garage, It would be the petrol amby.

Butter smooth engine (compared to Diesel amby), best seats and the VIP (Bureaucratic) status it comes with. (I only mean the petrol version)

Who is buying this car? Any idea what their monthly production numbers are?

Ground clearence is JUST 152 cm!I want to see Oyster Blue! I've already started imagining, Is it like Airforce one?

Guys,

A radical view is that HM needs to launch the Ambassador as anew 'retro' vehicle. This needs a complete overhaul of the existing chassis, engine etc. Make this a Beetle like retro vehicle available at 8-10 lacs. I bet there will be a lot of people who will be swayed by the retro feel.

In the current state, no matter what they do, the product is as good as dead.

The hydraulic trunk latch holders and rear a/c vents are a welcome change, the rest mere cosmetic.
Never liked the Avigo dash, looked like molten metal.
Hope they have at least slightly improved the quality.
And @sidindica don't know where you get all these scoops,Scoopmaster-san.
Any exterior changes and what about diesel hearts?
And the colour choice show that they are serious this time.

P.S- What about the pedal size? Too small or too big?
And normal size Amby, eh? what about the CS.

Got the details from HM site.

Never been in a petrol amby, but after having spent around 4 lac kms in diesel ones starting from Mark-IIIs, IVs, Novas and the so called "HM Plus" i hope they have worked at the basics also:

(i) Unacceptably poor quality of rubber beadings, plastic panels, glass winders, locks, etc. They literally start coming off in the first few months itself. Rattles from day 1.

(ii) The electricals are a mess. Tail lights, indicators, brake lamps, etc. fail intermittently. Almost inon-existent wiring for basic ICE, etc. Meters and gauges prone to failure.

(iii) The dashboard, lesser said about it the better. Glove box lock would come off at the first opportunity, then there will inevitably be a padlock hanging there.

(iv) Noise insulation non-existent. Cabin insulation poor.

(v) Safety, more a concern for pedestrians in this case but the occupants are in no safe haven either.

I could go on with these niggling issues, which would not cost a bomb to eradicate but has been left unattended over decades. If these still persists then i doubt whether these cosmetic changes would make things any better for HM.

And for that matter, i am no fan of the avigo dash either.

The rear seat of an Amby is still the place to be. Probably the only thing that it still has going for it. Sporty pedals are a joke.
