expected showroom price when it is released in february is around 28lakhs. at this price it is already 5 lakhs cheaper than the prado. HM website has the price marked at around 25lakhs. wonder how it will fare against the prado.

Hindustan Motors today took the wraps off the new Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia and announced plans to introduce an array of sports utility vehicles, including the Montero and the Outlander, in the local market.

“We expect to introduce the Montero in six months,” HM managing director Ravi Santhanam said.

The Montero is more like a traditional rugged and heavy SUV and is in the same segment as the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Outlander, on the other hand, is a mini SUV, similar to Honda’s CR-V and GM’s Forester. It is known in Japan as the Airtrek and has been developed as the “next generation SUV combining flexible utility with sporty style”.

The company also plans to introduce the Grandis minivan, although officials refused to divulge details. Known as a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in global markets, the Grandis in India is expected to be pitted against the Ford Fusion.

Grandis is actually an upgraded version of the Mitsubishi Space Wagon and is superior to the latter in all aspects such as build quality, styling, refinement and use of interior space.

Santhanam also ruled out the possibility of Hindustan Motors diluting any equity in favour of Mitsubishi.

The Lancer Cedia, which was unveiled today, will have an ex-showroom (Delhi) price of Rs 9.87 lakh.

Hey, no Lancer 1.6 unveiled yet?

Nice bit of news.

Doesnot the third pic look like the Innova?

I doubt that. The Grandis is a proper MPV which competes with the likes of the Toyota Previa and Renault Espace. Theres no way it could ever be priced close to the Innova and tavera.

The biggest hurdle Mitsubishi will face is to get the pricing right ! As all of these except the Cedia will be be CBU's.
If the cars are localised to more than 50%, HM can survive otherwise they are going nowhere.

What are the engine variants of the Lancer Cedia.

I hope HM has managers smart enough to think of that. lol:

HM has priced cedia fully loaded compared to toyota corolla base model.
Maybe HM will also play the same price game with the Grandis too. for Montero they have already rumoured price to be around 30 lakhs(similar to 10-12lakhs price for the cedia) They priced cedia at less than 10. ON HM link I have provided above HM talks of a pajero variant to be priced at aroound 25lakhs. Maybe they are too serious in coming back and have invested a lot to see that they succeed.

It will be out before the end of first half of 2006.

HM is trying to play all its cards on time.

Landcruiser Prado, MAYBE. Landcruiser - NO. That job belongs to the Pajeros.

I had the Montero with me in an African country (as the Nativa) and while it is a decent job that also manages to look pretty good IMHO my colleague's Prado was streets ahead as a vehicle.

Steer, the Nativa you drove is known as MonteroSport in the US and Challenger elsewhere (built off of their Max pickups). (competes with Fortuner I guess)

The 'Montero' (which is coming to India) is same as Pajero which is same as Shogun (UK)....and it competes with the Prado.

and of course the 'Landcruiser/LX470 is another size bigger. (Nissan Patrol eq)

comparing the montero to the prado the 7lakhs price difference doenst look justified.

instead I will buy a new sedan for the savings I make.

news update:- mitsubishi grandis will most probably have a invecs-III (the current lancer has Invecs-II). proof is that most Japanese cars are shared by us with the southeast. The new grandis has recently been launched and the roadtest was done on the invecs-iii.

Now if grandis invecs fully loaded is similarly priced to the Innova, sales will certainly favour the 3diamonds.

cEDIA cnG IN THE PIPELINE FOR LAUNCH IN 6MONTHS.

Cedia now officially available in Mumbai at Fort Point, Thane and Metro Motors, Hindustan Motors dealerships in Mumbai. Guys get a test-drive and give a feedback report. Lamborghini Where are you?

here is a link for a detailed info on the car.

The Lancer Cedia is manufactured at Hindustan Motors’ state-of-the-art plant at Chennai. Hindustan Motors Managing Director R Santhanam unveiled the Lancer Cedia. SC Gupta, Vice President, Hindustan Motors was also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Santhanam, said, “Lancer Cedia is a state of the art car. Loaded with power and aerodynamic enhancements and is extremely reliable and dependable I am sure this model will be well received in the high performance compact sedan car market in India.”

Lancer Cedia is a Premium Car evolved from the legendary Evo Series from Mitsubishi the 4-time rally champion. An extremely responsive car with easy manoeuvrability, the car can be easily negotiated in bumper-to-bumper traffic. It offers a pleasurable driving experience even in city traffic due to the excellent road grip and handling.

The muscular build is powered by an extremely powerful 2-litre petrol engine with 16 valves. Even at a top speed of 180 kmph, the car is stable, adding to the driving pleasure. The driver’s seats can be adjusted even the height to provide clear all-round visibility to the driver.

Fuel efficiency, safety and reliability, the other hallmarks of Mitsubishi vehicles, add to the power and performance of the Lancer Cedia.

Commenting on what distinguishes the Lancer Cedia from the Lancer, Ravi Santhanam, Managing Director, said, “The Lancer Cedia combines superior technology and design. With the Japanese technology, Lancer Cedia is more powerful than most cars on Indian roads. It is a remarkable combination of speed, power and elegance.”

The Lancer Cedia is a picture of sophistication with touches of glamour wide, stylish halogen headlamps, stylistic cuts, swoops and ridges on the bonnet, 6-spoke alloy wheels, wrap-around tail lamps and chrome door handles. The Mitsubishi badge on the muscular front is a focus of attention splitting the black grill with a chrome accent. It will be available in colours such as County Beige, Ashton Grey, French Claret, Nordic Blue and Black forest Green.

The Lancer Cedia is roomier than the existing Lancer models available in the market. It seats five persons comfortably because of a generous head, leg, shoulder and hip room. The plush interiors are similar to Mitsubishi’s Lancer Evo. The luxuriant Italian leather upholstery is complemented by premium two-tone beige finish and touches of imitation wood. Door pads, steering wheel, assist grips and shift knob are trimmed with leather. The rear passengers have access to a rear centre armrest with cup holders.

The design of the dashboard is multi-layered and modern with a leather-finish central console, while the Mitsubishi four-spoke steering wheel attracts special attention. The brightness of the instrument panel can also be adjusted as per the comfort of the driver. The cockpit is an elegant combination of wood and titanium.

Safety is prioritised in the Lancer Cedia with the incorporation of dual air bags, collapsible steering, side impact bars and a stabilizer bar. The car comes with anti-braking system and electronic brake force distribution system for smoother and safer stops. For the sporting enthusiasts, Hindustan Motors has also launched the Cedia Sports.

This variant is available in four fiery colours:

Chicago White
Black Pearl
Aussie Yellow
Manchester Red
It comes equipped with a rear spoiler and roof antennae. And of course, no sports car is complete without air dams. The interiors have also been given a sporty touch with carbon finish dash board, sports fabric upholstery and door pads.
