Re: March 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Rudra, Audi will come soon.

*UPDATE*

BMW added to the opening post:

- For the first time ever, a luxury car marque crosses the 1,000 sales / month mark. That's more than the HM-Mitsubishi, Nissan and Fiat of some recent months! Remove the City, and it's more than the Civic + Accord + Jazz combined.

- X1 ain't doing anything to the 3 series. We expected a higher rate of cannibalisation.

7 series : 60

Re: March 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Hey GTO, thanks for the BMW update.

Awesome figures from BMW.

The News reports total sales of 1027 and your figures add upto 1026.

Could you please tell which is that 1No car missing in sales figures.

Is it X3 or 6 Series ???????????????????

Fiat should definitely improve their visibility and be aggressive, I think Punto/Linea deserve much better than what they are today.

Interestingly, do the numbers represent only Bookings or do they represent Deliveries? I booked my x1 in Jan, will hopefully get it end of this month or next month.

Re: March 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

That is really a slap on the face for Mercedes & Audi, I mean even if they claim that X1 is the reason BMW is ahead, lol lets get the X1 numbers out and BMW is still #1.

I have said it in the past, and will repeat BMW India now has done so well that there is no going back, as a new entrant they won die hard Mercedes fans like me and a lot others, and now some of us a apprehensive of ever going back to Mercedes who I know are improving a lot but past haunts still, and like I have spoken some weeks back BMW India will definitely cross the 10,000 mark this year and you can quote me on this.

Looks like the 5 is going to be a winner all it's life until the W212 is replaced and which is another prediction I made when the W212 & F10 were launched.

GTO, any chance you can get the update on the S-Class? I mean why is it not being reported since Feb 11? Just curious to see what happened to the leader and why did it suddenly go off the charts considering it was at 50+ units until Jan 11?

Regards

P.S Considering the year is only starting and soon they will have the X3 and also better production figures for the X1 does it mean one of the months after the 2nd half of the year sometime during diwali we could see 1500+ numbers? I think we will, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

AFAIK (and I don't know much) Honda uses a diesel engine in Accord only in Europe /UK. I don't think they have diesel engines for smaller cars.

Re: March 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

I think we should look at sales of Fiat along with those of Tata as they have a JV and share some of the facilities like the paint shop, assembly lines etc. In case you look at it as a consolidated figure of a car manufacturer it's not too bad.

IMO, it should be considered as separate as it is a JV in sharing only the sales after market, in fact they (Tata and FIAT) have comeptitive models within in some segments. (similar to what Renault had with Mahindra)

Cheers!

According to a senior ex-Honda executive, the diesel engine works out too expensive unless made in india. Importing from Europe me1ans the indo-thai tariffs are not applicable. Oh! Honda hates diesel engines

Re: March 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Vento Diesel and SX4 Diesel are now very good alternatives available in the 8-10 lakh range and does make one think about why Honda city?

In addition to these being good products I feel March through May numbers for Honda and Toyota may get impacted by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami crisis last month. Both being masters of JIT and some critical components coming from Japan this could have some impact on the dispatch numbers from factory.

Re: March 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

I am shocked to see most of the times the 5 series beating the 3 in the sales!! But how are GranTurismos still selling? I thought it was just a limited edition and all of them were sold.

And the X1..wow! Sold more than the CR-V, Captiva and Santa Fe! I think it'll reach Fortuner levels once production capacity is increased.

Curious to know Jaguar sales too!

Oh so do I.

But given the current fuel price scenario in India, do I or for that matter Honda have a choice.

We will need to compromise and move to the fuel of the truckers and buses.

Just consoling myself for my next purchase. Which would have to be diesel simply because I cannot afford petrol running costs now.

Re: March 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Honda Siel Cars India Ltd leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, sold cumulatively 59,463 units during the period April’10- March’11 as against 61,815 units sold during the corresponding period last year.

This is what the statement from the Honda site reads. Dismal sales of the City, Jazz, and the Civic. The units sold this month ie 3576, is the no of units the City sells a month. Damn you Honda. Do something now rather than just relying on the Brio to bring you back.

But are they bothered?? The coming months sales will tell the story.

Re: March 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

All these years Honda City was at the top of its segment. One month it slips down, and we write its epitaph! I feel it is too early to do that. Expect it to bounce back within a month or two.
