Re: Marshall’s life – Indian F1 Grand Prix’11 ( Buddh Int'l circuit )

Day 1 Contd

1st half -

Once the registrations got over we got to see the round of introductions from the Bahrain and the Indian Team and it was now time for the general presentation which briefed us about the various roles that people would be moved into which included the following
  1. Fire & Rescue
  2. Logistics
  3. Track Marshalls ( intervention Marshall's and Flag Marshals )
  4. There was one more - Sudev sir please help
During the initial presentation we got to know that we're supposed to report to the venue on 24th oct and be there till 30th Oct ( WOOOOW ) and all the arrangements would be done by the Organisers.

Diwali ( 26th Oct ) would be the only exception where the Marshall's have the option to go back to their homes or relatives ( out station officials ) and the Head COC ( Clarke of Course ) also announced that Diwali day would see the BEST PARTY TO BE EVER HELD ( I also read in the newspaper yesterday that Arjun Rampals club LAP is going to organise the party and they're expecting the who's who of the country and abroad apart from the Participants )

With this we broke for lunch for about an hour

2nd Half

All the Marshall's were assigned departments and were supposed to go to their respective classrooms for the further specialized training.

I was in the Track Marshall team and was trained by a guy call Big Joe. He ran us thorough a presentation which included all the Do's and Don'ts of being a track Marshal along with lots of videos as examples.

I'm sure none of us ever observed the Marshall's and what they do during the F1 races however on the contrary i realised that these are the guys who make or break the races. There were many vids showing the goof ups done by Marshalls which could have resulted endangering both drivers and Marshall's life.

At the end of it we were promised a very hilarious thing by the Head COC -

"THIS IS THE BEST FUN YOU CAN EVER HAVE WITH YOUR CLOTHES ON"

There were FOUR other departments. The training was held in Delhi for:
Recovery
Marshal Welfare

The training for Pit/Grid and Scrutiny was held at Chennai.

The thread is an eyeopener for people like me to know about the F1 sport

PGNarain is right. Seems lot of things are pending. Will it be over well before the event. I doubt.

These details are primarily from the 2 training days that we attended. Inputs are welcome from other BHPians who were in other departments as i was unable to gather too much information about other Marshals.

This thread would have more details during the week of F1 ie from 24th to 30th Oct.

Excited about it!

I am excited as well, undergoing power training at the gym for intervention Marshall will require strength and speed. Better be prepared in advance.

Any special routine our friends are undergoing? Do share. Thanks!

Although i hit the gym every now and then however i've been regular since last 10 days and would continue to do so to keep myself fit and healthy.

I would also request other Marshal friends to pen down their experiences , pics and plans for this big event.

^directly linked to no wifi at the apartments

It pains to see you sweat it out with so much enthusiasm and people making you loose it. I am personally at awe to see you still being patient. Kudos.

The food catering is bad and getting worse at trackside. Marshals from Bahrain made faces at the food and there was no ice served at our post.
The overalls sizes do not fit most, marshals at least intervention Marshals should have right clothing else we will have YouTube full of Indians falling before even leaving the fence. No offense but logistics should have checked for everyone's sizes and ordered.

Letting these issues not deter any marshals interest for the sport we are enjoying the stay and at track, it will be awesome GP for time to come.

Thank you for having us over.

I did not want to miss this for the Sun however had to due to work commitments. Finally got free from work and managed to get a ticket for the finals tomorrow.

Hoping to see the action from the Audience point of view and regretting to miss the Marshalls view.

@ Marshalls - Would request you guys to post the detailed description of how it went.

Hi Sudev,

Do we really need realtime response from here.

This really is new levels of forgiving attitude all of us are developing for the sake of being in the field of "Motorsports" and not to let down the "Inaugural India Formula 1" from being a officiating fiasco and giving the rest of the world another opportunity to ridicule our organisational abilities.

Thanks and Best Regards

Ram

Hi Every One !!!

I am here to modify my own statement above.

The Marshalls Life on the 1st Indian F1 was not really easy with a lot of promises made during the recruitment campaigns remaining undelivered or only partially delivered.

But I would say the way the Indian Marshalling Community rallied together and stuck to their given tasks were really amazing and I really do not have any words to describe it.

It was that colloective dedication that made the Race Day such a good experience with almost negligible yellow flag periods and almost dot on the time performance.

Believe me having been part of couple of "Inaugural Events" other than at Budh International - I would say this was the best by far !!!

Largely the credit must go to the SPIRIT of the Indian Motorsports Marshall's community.

See you all in BIC come October 2012 !!!

So Long

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Ram

Is there any T-BHPian who got short-listed this year? I have been called to attend the workshop this weekend.
