Poona United Round Table 144 (PURT144) & Round Table India in association with Poona Blind Men Association are organizing Blind Men Navigated car rally. An event similar to the one that is organized in Mumbai year on year. This is happening for the first time in Pune.

Concept:

• A blind man will be acting as the navigator and will read out directions written in braille.
• The participant follows these directions and makes his way around the designated route.
• There will be check points along the way to ensure that the correct route is being followed.

About the Rally:

• Date: Sunday, 4th March, 2012
• Registration fee: Rs. 2000/- (The proceeds from the Car Rally will go towards donation to Blind Welfare Association and building a school for under privileged children around Pune)
• Kick off point: Phoenix Market City, Nagar Road
• Time: 8 AM
• The other rules & regulations remain same as for Mumbai Blind Men rally.

Even i have passed the link to all the freinds in the company. But nobody has given any positive response. :-(

I want to participate but hoping that other BHPIans also join in. It would be more fun.

Hi Guys,

Just an update.

Met Mukesh Ruparel from Dynamix, they are organizing the rally at Pune.
The date of 4th Mar stands cancelled as of now because they have not been able to obtain the permission from police authorities.

Although, he accepted my form, he refused to take the registration amount and said that he would accept it after he communicates the ammended date and I accept it. Very professional.

And @whiteknight : request you to add my name in the list.

I have always wanted to take part in this, but the Mumbai ones are invariably on the first week of Feb and could never make it.

Although, the change in date unsettles me, I am going right till the end to make it.

Thanks Sandip for the update. So did Mukesh mention by when would the revised schedule be published? I know it would depend on the authorities giving the permission.

So would you be in touch with him so that you can update this thread with the revised dates?

He was hopeful that he would come to know by tomorrow evening at the latest.

Looking at the response to this thread i don't think we are going to meet a lot of TBhpians.

This is "tentative" even now.
Mukesh tells me that there is some miscommunication within the authorities. They are "trying" to make this happen on 18th Mar but aren't sure.

I fail to understand why a good cause like this should not be granted permission though .

You should appreciate the effort involved in ensuring that a rally like this goes smoothly and at the same time the general public are the least inconvenienced. Specially after the Swargate bus incident, the police wouldn't want to take chances.

Anyways, yesterday I received a call from my navigator of the Mumbai rally. He informed me the Pune rally dates had been postponed to 18th and that a contingent of 25 navigators, including him, will be travelling to Pune for the rally. Wish I could join them!
