Over the race weekend, Diljith also clocked the fastest lap of the Etios Motor Racing event at the BIC, with a 2:38.41 lap timing. Notably, Diljith was also the runner up at the recently held Mercedes Benz Young Star Driver race at the Buddh International Circuit. The Etios Motor Racing Trophy selected 25 drivers last year, out of a pool that consisted of hundreds of aspirants. The trophy was spread across two legs of four races each.

The first leg was held at the Madras Motorsports Club (MMSC) track in Sriperumbudur in July, while the second leg was held last weekend at the BIC. The top three finishers overall, Diljith, Akhil Rabindra and Varun Anekar will head to the Toyota Vios cup, a one make series conducted by Toyota Racing Development, Thailand.

The Etios Motor Racing Trophy is Japanese car maker Toyota's initiative to hone motorsport talent in India. The racing series serves as a feeder event to the Toyota Vios cup. Apart from Toyota, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen conduct one-make car races on Indian circuits. The Buddh International Circuit hosted the National Racing Championship Weekend on the 14th and 15th of September that saw a range of motorsport events unfold on two and four wheels.
