Introduction : About Speed Sprint

This is the latest innovation in rallying. A single closed stage that is used for super fast driving. The rally is held over a course of single day (or night!!). A quick and tight format allows for high level of competition that is further aided by rules that allow for multiple runs to improve timings.

In other words “car aur bike ki T20!!”

A single tarmac stage with distance between to kilometers in a loop format to bring competitors back near the start for exciting timing comparison.

Drivers can share one vehicles so that multiple drivers can drive a single vehicles to keep the over all costs low. A great way to retain friendly competition at a small club/group level.

For the dedicated speedsters it also means that they can try out more than one vehicle on the track and compare agility and ability of each. Great for serious speed freaks.

Sprint Rally is very spectator friendly as the track is in a closed loop. It allows for some fantastic action viewing and shooting. Tight turns and “yumps” add to the excitement which can easily viewed from spectating areas right next to the track.

Run in three categories:
> Zip for normal road going cars
> Zap for rally prepared vehicles
> Zoom for the bikers

Consistently about 200 to 250 races are runs during a day at Speed Sprint. There are serious eyeballs to be captured and all of them interested in and looking for high performance products, activities and life style. Concurrent photo competition on social media ensure high visibility and continued coverage during the post event competition period.

For now Speed Sprint has been held at Chandigarh, Jaipur Ludhiana. And now at Delhi.

Next year we plan to also include Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai in the Speed Sprint circuit.

To be held on Sunday November 24 2013 the Delhi round of Speed Sprint would be run at the Buddh Circuit Complex. The F1 circuit back drop is aphrodisiac for every motor sports enthusiast.

Unlike usual there are two tracks to accommodate huge rush of entries. One track for Zip with more than 280 race starts already booked. Having a length of 5.4km

The Zap and Zoom share the second track with length of 5.6km.

A concurrent photography competition is also run and enthusiast photographers can participate in shooting the competitors.

To get to Speed Sprint venue follow the Yamuna Express way towards Agra. Take Exit 2B from the highway and follow signs for South Gate. A kilometer or so straight after south gate you will see the South Stands on the right and markers for Speed Sprint. Take the right turn to reach parking and race office area.

Zip Track was 5.6 kilometers long and incorporated five STOP boxes, chicanes and turns.

STOP boxes serve two purpose one test drivers ability to control vehicle and come to a complete stop within a marked area without loosing time. If you overshoot penalty was 60 seconds!! And if you approach slowly you loose time. Second purpose STOP box serve is to keep the average and overall speeds within check.

On the other hand ZAP and ZOOM categories track length was 5.2kms and it had four handbrake / pivot turns. Long sweeping curves with wide tarmac was a treat.

There were also four places where there were a set of speed breakers that had potential to disrupt any driver not fully in control.

There were two sharp curves where either you committed to full power exit or you lost time.

Two of the riders were a bit unlucky to loose control and one of the twin breakers on a curve. Some minor bruises were the result along with retirement for the day.

Zip competition had 190 race cards issued. This is a record as the maximum races in Zip category till the previous Speed Sprint has never been more than 120.
