Thanks for the info Tushar. Had been to the first event and as a viewer I was too tempted back then to participate. This time around I guess I'll give it a shot. I know my little hatchback is not a rear wheel monster to pull drift like GS but I reckon powersliding this car around in a controlled environment will be a nice way to spend my Sunday.

Any other BHPians planning to participate/visit?

Apparently for participants, registration is on 29/11 i.e. Saturday between 9-10 am, practice between 10-12 and qualifying between 1-3 pm.

Sunday is the main event where all the participants will compete with each other in the finals which will take place between 11:30-14:00 hrs.

Can anybody confirm this?

Err, is this safe? It seems like spectators didn't care much for their safety!

Missed it! Will be tracking the events in Thane more furiously now, considering the proximity.

Could any of the attendees kindly post more pics and/ or videos?

Hey great meeting you too as well. Hope to catch up in other upcoming events

Have a few pics and shaky videos :) (smartphone quality). Will try to share asap.

We also had a Grand i10 driven by a fellow bhp-ian (going by the stickers on his rear glass) attempting the drifts. Did not get a chance to catch up as the spectator and participant areas were separated. Hope our bhp-mate identifies himself :D

Unfortunately we had to leave before the results were announced. In case anyone knows the results, kindly share.

.

Yup that was me :). It was the first time that I attempted handbrake turns and the results were evident. I hadn't participated to compete but just wanted to have fun and chuck around my car in a controlled environment.

About the event:

Superbly organised. No complaints here. As usual the organisers and staff members were courteous and the event went as per schedule. The highlight and the reason why most visited the event was Mr. GS, who pulled off the most insane drifts I have ever seen and burnt some serious rubber (literally!). Even the way he left from the venue in his chopper was like a BOSS! Two thumbs up to him for encouraging drifting/motorsports in India.

About my car:

Its a Hyundai but that did not stop me from participating. My practice runs were comparatively better than my final run. Will it drift? Well, yes partially. But the rest of the times I was understeering too much or I just spunstupid:. Too bad I did not get a chance like others to practice on Saturday at the venue, else, my performance would have been slightly better, but hey, there is always a next time!

Results:
1st: Kartik (red Swift)
2nd: Parag (?) & Arvaan (white Polo)
3rd: Don't remember

All in all a great way to spend a Sunday.

Next up - Autocross on 13th and 14th December. See you there.

Hey was great to see a fellow bhpian attempting the drifts. I have to tell you, the wheels of your car are smokin'. They really sit well in the wheel arches and give a really planted feel to the car. :thumbs up

You bet. We were at the receiving end when the draft of his helicopter blew dust and plastic chairs towards us. But he was the highlight and his multiple runs did keep the audience (and I hope participats as well) enthralled.

Apart from a 520D, all other cars were FWD. And honestly, it takes guts to subject your machine to the maximum risking cluth, tyres and even body damage which some got on hitting the tyre barriers.

So a huge respect to everyone who at least had the confidence to attempt it.

Back to the 520D, we (Swiftnfurious and I) did discuss that maybe he did not turn off the traction control. Otherwise there was not way that the Beemer would understeer after such intense attempts.

Thanks. What I got from SwiftnFurious was that Kartik was the defenfing champion. But he deserved the trophy given his run.

I am interested in this thread. In a couple of months I will have a RWD tata estate (Mercedes M103 engine) ready with which I would like to participate in such events.

Looks like a lot of fun.

Sure did. It is always great to see and him pull of amazing drifts and hear the thunderous sound from his wild drift cars.

Speaking about guts, a guy did enter in an RWD Eeco!!! Although he wasn't allowed to participate at the time of scrutiny and eventually had to leave. Else, there would have been another topple at the event.

Actually, it was a 530D. Apparently, he drove the car all throughout in 'S' mode (not sure whether TC was off) and he mentioned that as soon as he lifted off near a corner, the car shifted up and took some time to shift back down when he stomped the throttle. Not sure, if that was the sole reason, but yes, everyone were expecting a lot of sideways action from the 530D.
