So this took a while to put up because I've got a limited data connection (and a really bad procrastination problem), but it's finally done!
I read the news about the event at 2 in the morning on the day of the event and was in two minds about attending it since I'm new in town, but the petrolhead inside got the the better of me, and after two hours of bumbling around town trying to figure out public transport, I finally got there at around 12 noon.
This was the first car to catch my eye when I got there. Not sleeping late on a Sunday morning was finally starting to look like a good idea!
Having arrived late I figured I may have missed a lot. But five minutes after I arrived, this happened
His other two drift cars, the M3 and the S15 were also out, so he might've done a couple of runs in those as well, but this was the only one I got.
The competition began soon after that. The format was to run 3 laps of the right section of the track and pull off your best drift in front of the spectator/Judges area. In the interest of battery life I recorded only the stuff that interested me or looked promising.
The first run of the day.
This Esteem was one of the best sounding rides of the day, but its racecar stiffness kept it from pulling off any slides at all.
After the first two participants, the event was halted for a bit while the staff pulled this out of one of the garages.
The look on that guy's face sums up pretty much everyone's feelings at the time.
GS left soon afterwards,
like a boss!
"Umm...Should I remind Sirji he's not in the car anymore?"
The event resumed soon after that, and the first proper sliding came from this OHC.
The one car everyone was waiting to see out on the track was the C63 which had been making angry V8 noises all the while.
This Vento had a really loud turbo!
My personal favourite of the day was this Linea.
Suddenly there were a series of loud revs from one of the garages that brought the entire event to a halt. A sudden hush fell over the crowd as everyone at the event, car lovers or not, whipped out their cameras and waited for what was coming next.
The distraction was big enough that no one watched the next run till it was halfway done.
The last run of the day was a rather loud Swift, both in volume and in stickers.
There are also a couple of other runs that I didn't post here that can be found at this playlist.

Shortly after, the results were announced, and the participants area was opened to the spectators. The 200SX went out on another run. Not sure who the driver was this time, but he seemed pretty keen on impressing his female passenger.
Here are a couple of shots that I took of the S15.
This car wore its battle scars with pride. A peek at the 200SX before it set out on its final run.
Then came the final run of the day from the 200SX and a bit of the S15 being moved into the garage.
The rear tires were so hot after that bit that the outer layer was liquefied and left a faint black marking on the road, and continued smoking for more than a minute after the car had stopped.
The heart of the beast.
Then the day was done and the cars were retired to the garage. The V8 was surprisingly quiet at lower revs.
So this was all about my experience of a last minute decision that ended up
being my first motorsport event!
