Official dates of the 2016 India Speed Week have been revealed. The event will take place in Kolkata on the 9th, 10th and 11th December 2016. It was earlier scheduled for the month of January this year, but had to be delayed due to some missing government approvals.

The 2016 ISW will be organised by Elite Octane Inc., which also manages The Valley Run in Aamby Valley, Maharashtra. The organisers are now bringing the drag racing experience to Kolkata. The event will be held at the runway of the Behala Flying Club. It will be governed by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).

An unveiling event for the 2016 ISW will take place on October 26 in Kolkata. Further details about the event are expected be revealed thereafter.

It's happening practically at my doorstep and I won't be there

Will unfortunately be missing the India Speed Week as I would still be in the United States that time. Would have loved to participate as some of my friends are the organizers of the India Speed Week and nothing as massive to promote Indian Motorsport has ever taken place in Calcutta recently. Several nice supercars, sportscars, modified cars and bikes will be taking part, so it is definitely going to be a treat to watch for any spectator. Arrangements at the venue should be top notch as well.

Events like these must be supported in East India. Am taking part in the K3 class, although i know i don't stand a chance at actually winning anything

This is an awesome event. Have never had to chance to race in Kolkata. Travelling all the way from Bangalore to take part in this event.

After the initial hiccups, turned out great. Participated and came second in my class.

I was supposed to be at a wedding function of a close relative on all 3 days, but I managed to find time on saturday to spend the day there! Loved every minute of being there!

As I enter the venue the first thing I noticed were the supercars owned by the club GT members.






But what immediately caught my attention was the octavia behind the Z4 you see above. That cut in sheet metal on the boot looked suspicious. As I got closer, I realised the rear section of the car was made of fiberglass (probably). I peeked through the gaps and saw some large stainless steel pipes leading to a huge turbo! At the moment I know I was standing in front of something very special.



I was talking to my brother about how this will probably do less than 12 seconds to the quarter mile when this nice gentlemen came up to us and said its a WIP and that they hadn't yet pushed it to its limits. Even then the car was doing 13 seconds. The rear section of the car had been completely taken out and had spaceframe built to his specifications. Although he was using the octavia's original block , the head, air intakes, turbos, exhaust, engine maps, pretty much everything was made from scratch. Power output as per his estimations were 350Bhp at the wheels!.



This is by far the most impressive thing I have ever seen! Unfortunately for me, the car wasn't going to run that day!

These purpose built drag-bikes were especially fast clocking a time of just above 10 seconds with a trap speed of a 150 plus. To put that into perspective, a stock diesel verna was doing 15+seconds and about 110kmph at the line when it was competing in its class.

My only regret is that I couldn't go on all 3 days of the event. If this event ever comes back to Kolkata again, I will definitely visit.

That mid engined Octavia VRS is built by TVARA Performace. It's a very good idea and brilliant execution. I have seen that car doing the run at recent drag event in Hosur.

Also, this car won Indian open and 3 rd place in unrestricted class category.
