AXLR8R - Single seat electric race car by IIT Delhi students EV story seems to have a bright future in India as it has gone deep into young minds, group of students in IITD (AXLR8R) have done a great job of coming from IC engines to single seat battery powered race car.
One of my cousins joined IITD undergrad program a few years ago and he was so fascinated by the work of this group that he joined it much before crossing legal age to drive their own designs!
After he joined this team, I stared having many discussions with him about how they are putting a lot of efforts to improve design, performance, safety and reliability of car. These guys spent a lot of time explaining me what they are doing, and they were more than happy to show their latest cars and designs to me.
I’m starting this thread to showcase achievements of these young engineers of IITD. About the Group-
AXLR8R is a group of 30 enthusiastic undergraduates from IIT Delhi who as young innovators aim to design and fabricate an open-wheel race car with a focus on good design, reliability and performance.
Since its inception in 2006 they have made 5 IC and 3 electric cars successfully.
This year (2019) they participated in Formula Student Germany 2019 under Formula Student Electric 2019 category. What is the Formula Student Germany competition?
Students build a single seat formula racecar with which they can compete against teams from all over the world. The competition is not won solely by the team with the fastest car, but rather by the team with the best overall package of construction, performance, and financial and sales planning.
Formula Student challenges the team members to go the extra step in their education by incorporating into its intensive experience in building and manufacturing as well as considering the economic aspects of the automotive industry. Teams take on the assumption that they are a manufacturer developing a prototype to be evaluated for production. The target audience is the non-professional Weekend-Racer. The racecar must show very good driving characteristics such as acceleration, braking and handling. It should be offered at a very reasonable cost and be reliable and dependable. Additionally, the car's market value increases through other factors such as aesthetics, comfort and the use of readily available, standard purchase components.
