MMRT & VW launch track sessions for racing enthusiasts

Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) has partnered with Volkswagen Motorsport to offer racing enthusiasts a chance to drive the race-spec Volkswagen Polo as part of an 'Arrive and Drive' program.

The fee for a 25 minute session is Rs. 9,000. The price includes cost of the track, car hire, fuel, tyres, mechanics and crew. Drivers can book up to four slots on any given day. The session includes a driving evaluation and safety briefing. It does not include training.

Initially, the program only offers a chance to drive the race-spec Polo. However, the organisers plan to introduce the race-spec Vento in the future. Once the drivers get used to the track and the car, they would be allowed to graduate to the Ventos.

The first session of Arrive and Drive was held on September 6, 2020. The next session is scheduled for September 13 (2 pm - 6 pm).

Finally,

This is need of the hour.

I wish our own BIC (buddha international circuit) takes a cue from this,
and start their own events.

Right now, even if you bring your own set of wheels,
the track day is very heavy on the pocket.

BIC has had this program for at least a few years now. They have 3 Ameo Cup Race Cars with 1.8 TSI and sequential gearbox and 1 Polo Cup Car with 1.6 N/A (I think?) and manual gearbox. They usually advertise the same whenever a regular track day takes place. It's just that no track days have taken place in a while.

This is just a part of regular track days that are organised. The day is split into two sessions of 0900-1300 and 1400-1800 for bikes and cars respectively. You can always take your car and drive there. Check the following page for the schedules. Usually they update 2 weeks in advance

The charges to drive your own car would be 4000. Please do contact them in advance for availability of slots as they are working to limit the max number of people on track due to covid.

I wish MMRT would publish a schedule a few months in advance. Or maybe it's just me, because I haven't seen one anywhere.

I'd love to put in a few laps with fellow BHPians. Will try to get some more info on their next Arrive & Drive session.

Is there a way to rent a car at Madras race track? I will be visiting Chennai next week and want to know if there is a way to experience some nice cars on the track.
