DRIVE n FEEL Mitsubishi CEDIA on the RACE TRACK

This is what the sms forwarded to me read.

Just when I was counting all my options for the track day in Coimbatore, Im invited by dearest HM Mitsubishi to rip an ABS eqipped, 115bhp 2 Litre car on the very same day. I had no choice but to honour Mitsubishi's offer.

And so, Neoranjit and me set off in his new SX4 to the track on sunday afternoon after watching F1. Reaching the track, I expected to see the track regulars but was surprised to see none. After the formalities, we were waiting at the paddocks when they announced a Beer drinking contest. Yeah, thats right!
Me being the teetotaler, I was checking out a lone rally spec cedia that was used as a track taxi. Nice!

Finally, my turn to drive the cedia on the track arrived.I felt like a kid waiting for his turn in the rollercoaster. I enthusiastically get in and strap myself. In the passenger seat was a stout guy who was to make sure the car was in a single piece. Tough luck!
Just when he was about to finish asking me if I've done a track day, I dump the cedia's clutch at 5000 rpm and I was wheel spinning to glory. Good torque from the 4G94.
I threw her from corner to corner . Man, this baby's NIPPY! Although, the suspension is softer than my liking, it was doing everything my input gave. Chassis is as stiff as they come. Exiting the last corner and onto the main-straight , I braked almost at the end and the ABS were doing their job efficiently. After a couple laps, I returned to the pit lane ,with a HUGE smile.

For its price, the Cedia is the perfect track car.
Mark my words. This car is gonna replace the OHC VTEC and the Baleno.

After the track experience, there was "off-roading on the pajero" which never happened since it was stuck in dirt with road tyres on.

Pictures will be posted by neoranjit. Includes one in which I try and succeed in getting into the roll-cage'd INRC cedia. When there's a will, there's a way :-)

I would love to see a pic of the expression on that chaps face when you did this.

How do you get such an invitation?
Would you care to share the internals of it?

Was this because the car was more in Rally state of tune rather than track. Rally cars have to be softer than their track counterparts for better wheel articulation.

But must have been a lovely experience. Now was the car neutral or was it dialled with a lot of understeer.

Why I am asking this, is because I have driven a few Lancers (Cedia type) out of which I have found completely different handling versions, even found a tail happy version on track (Oz Rally edition). Dont know whether that was a result of the owner doing something to it, but car was riding on Kumho's most probably.

Hi guys, had a relative who was working in HM, Thiruvallur - Chennai. He advised me NOT to go for the Cedia since HM dealers were having trouble selling the car, & that HM was slowly winding down production. Apparently, the drop in prices of the City, & the introduction of the Civic had hurt the Cedia badly. Of course this is just hearsay, but he scared me enough to put off my plans of buying a Cedia !

how is the civic competition for the cedia? i thought the cedia is in the 8-11L category whilst the civic is 14L? The city - yes - competition is there.

Guess like the palio and sienna the lancer has been successfully killed by the dealer. :(
