No problem with "hijacking". Who "owns" a thread?. Thanks for posting this retro pic. It reminds me of Sholavaram near Madras, where all motorsports events took place, before the current track was built. Is it?.

It was taken at Sholavaram. I do not know the year. My mentor Sowcar Srinath's No.47 Formula Indian special can be seen just forward of the large formula car, presumably an F5000 Surtees-Chevrolet.

That Surtees is probably from the house of Gondal. The Porsche is being driven by the King of Good Times himself, believe it or not. The Fiat is being driven by B Vijaykumar of Rolon, and I'm willing to believe that there is a Jayaram somewhere amongst those drivers.

To be a spectator on that grid!

I heard he overtook everyone at the start only to crash out at the first corner (not sure how true this is).

Is this the same infamous 911 that he crashed on the Mysore Highway? Was talked about in one of the vintage threads

Even if he is not, Jayaram Senior is responsible for the design of atleast two cars on that grid. Bobby Jayaram can perhaps shed light on this.

Hi Guys, a n00b question...

In this pic:

An afternoon at the MMSC Track.-formularolonfrontsuspension1.jpg

What are those two push rods that extend towards the front of the car ? The Formula Rolon Chevys have movable aero or are they for anti-roll bars or something ?

@ananthkamath.. awesome photo. Is this from the sholavaram track ? (Just saw that answered) A long time back I remember seeing all kinds of cars being driven/carried to sholavaram.

It is interesting to compare sholavaram and today's racing, to begin, most of the cars that you see in the Sholavaram were home made, there were no safety regulations etc.., notice people wearing t-shirts !!! Also the more money you put in they more the gap was.. if you see current races they will all finish without too many people getting lapped.. those days people got lapped in the 2nd or 3rd lap.

I personally feel todays racing is the future, Sholovaram was just a track day were people turned up and showed off their hard ware, there was no driving talent or development in racing 2 long straights and 4 corners.

Wish we could get a track in the North, that would really bring more awareness to the sport.

Also the Number 88 bike (white with blue and black strips is me, I qualified 5th overall and finsihed 4th overall and 2nd in the 600cc class.)
