Sorry about not being able to hand over the 75-300. I was late for duty(read the log, and literally had to run!
Running with a fire extinguisher is no fun
But I think in hindsight the 18-55IS was a better bet as the lighting was poor, and the 75-300 is not stabilized. So you would have had to use higher ISO, and even then shutter speeds would not have frozen the action.

I was posted more towards the end of the track, infact where I was standing about 20 meters before that the F1 car started braking from top speed.
Behind me were the general public(read free, no pass) enclosures, and there was just one layer of crowd there, and that too spaced far apart. I could count more security guys than the audience.

In contrast to that, the media etc., enclosures were jam packed!
Infact in the pics on this thread, I see lot of heads of other people in the pics.
If you guys had come to the "general" enclosure, it would have been a interruption free photography, and there would have been absolutely no crowd around!
So this explains how popular is F1 in New Delhi!
A few pics

Hey, don't worry about that at all. I didn't want to tell you on the phone but I wasn't very sure that I'd be able to handle that lens & was going to tell you when we met! Didn't want to take a risk with an unfamiliar lens, that too not my own

And you're correct about the light factor.

In fact, I was quite surprised to see you guys so late. When we arrived at India Gate, access points were all open, we parked in the Children's Park area & crossed over without any issues. I guess it all started hotting up thereafter.

About the crowds, it was pretty packed around & opposite us but obviously nowhere near the numbers they would have seen in their other roadshows around the world!

Actually, the 75-300 would have been better. You get the 300 mm. And IS would not be of any help for freezing action. In fact all my shots have been with IS off (on the 100-400 IS). And shutter speeds of 1/500 at ISO-400 were achievable.

75-300vs 100-400.
Well 75-300 performs okay only if you have F8-F11 aperture. Wide open this lens is not good. This is strictly a bright light lens.
I normally use this at ISO 800 at F8 so that I can achive shutter speeds of 1/600 or faster.
Anyways, waiting to see some nice PAN shots from you.

A few from my end, straight from the camera (apart from the file resizing). It was more a session of Getting Used to the Rebel XSI so seniors please overlook flaws. I was just having a ball, putting it in Continuous Shooting mode & letting it rip

Here's where they started their displays. The cars are in motion & the drivers are on the roofs, then walking down next to their cars while waving to the people & then getting back in & driving off. I thought it was very well coordinated -

Toon car stunt by Hollywood stunt man

This is a damn cool video of Renault's toon car doing a figure 8 stunt in Delhi

The Mahindra Renault joint venture has survived through troubled waters. The Logan tourer edition is one more addition to Logan variants to save the sales of Logan. But I like this new edition which was unveiled at Auto Expo 2010. With the travel accessories, this car is a good buy.
