Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.

A Sunday morning well spent, I'd say !! What a fantastic event, I'm sure everyone enjoyed including the ones who got lost or missed a couple of turns here and there (or drove on the wrong side of the road/went to buy bumpers in between/floored it from Hyatt to NAB etc). A report from my side.

My MERU cab i.e. Dippy arrives on time at 7:15am. We meet at Mahim causeway. Arpandiv and Ford_Rocam are well on their way to NAB Worli already. Dippy is a chiller eh?

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4436.jpg

We reach Mahim, where we get the news that apparently the sun has not risen in Gujarat as yet. Yet, Dippy is pleased with his car on a beautiful morning, and decides to park haphazardly. Someone hand him an infraction.

Finally, the sun rises in Gujarat and F50 meets us in his S(wift)14. I'm riding as passenger with F50 in his S14 today.

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4440.jpg

When we get to NAB - Worli seaface, everyone is busy stickering their rides. New fad, it seems, we joined in the fun as well. Seen here are Akshay (Dippy's friend), F50 and Ford_Rocam pasting their stickers.

Nice stuff flyingspur,

It was a great experience and a lot of fun too. A really well organized event, for a good cause, that was fun for the participants, navigators - and seemingly for the organizers too! Thats a sucess.

I tried to capture every BHPian and navigator, or atleast their car....

Participants met their navigators @ NAB and then walked out to the parking area.

We keep hearing that flag-off is in 5 mins, but nothing seems to be happening. Frustrated, Dippy decides to pose with his ride.

We're handed supplies...

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4484.jpg

...and the event is flagged off. F50 is in a mood to cruise.

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4483.jpg

Soon we make the first (and only) big mistake of the morning. A turn is overshot by a long way. F50 is puzzled and tries to figure it out with our navigator.

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4485.jpg

A quick phone call F50 makes a U-turn and floors it. We're now back on track. "Sab saaru chaale chhe" he seems to say !!

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4486.jpg

We reach the first checkpoint.

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4487.jpg

Driving down to Marine Drive, it's a beautiful morning. The city is just about waking up, while a bunch of cars is running about crazily through the streets of town at the whims of the visually impaired.

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4491.jpg

An adventure through Colaba and we're at the second checkpoint already, near CST. While we wait at the red light, I'm trying to decide whether we have enough time for me to hop off and run to McD real quick for some chow. Proposal promptly shot down by F50

Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.-img_4496.jpg

Guess who's caught up with us? It's Manson [Scorpio] and Arpandiv [Alto]. Later we learn that Doggdigga took a detour, made a quick stop at Opera house and picked up a bumper or something

The latter stages of the rally are quite uneventful. It's down to a final blast to NAB....at about 35kmph. Here's our timesheet.

The line for lunch was too long at NAB, so F50, Dippy, Ford_Rocam, Akshay, Arpandiv, his friend and myself decided to scoot to Noorani's. Don't have pictures of that. Finally got dropped off by Arpandiv home at about 3pm. Thanks for the ride man.

That was the end of the report from my side. Hope you guys enjoyed it !! Nice meeting every one of you.

Cheers!

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday. A gang of Bhpians, a bunch of blind but extremely talented navigators, one mentally retarded co navigator(guess who?) armed with their machines and their maps. We went the right way, lost it a bit, got back on track and I almost overshot a checkpoint but it was a blast. I enjoyed every bit of this rally and moreso because it was for a good cause. Good to see the turnout of bhpians today. Thoes who missed is this year should definately take part next time. It is a very special experience. I will surely be there next time around.

Got a participation certificate too which is quite cool. Let the other pictures flow in.

what a lovely experience. A sunday morning well spent.
Hardly anyone of us have an experinece of being navigated , following instructions blindly, literally from a blind man.
The experience of mixing two good things in life, driving and charity for a good cause, was so much entertaining. All the participants had so much fun bring some good moments in life of these visually impaired people. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

I did miss up a checkpoint only to realize that i did not have any further instruction left in the road book. I had to take a U- turn and drive back at the phoenix mills checkpoint to get the next road book. Probabaly my only mistake for the day but not one dull moment.

It was great to see Team-BHP turn up in decent numbers to support this cause.

All in all a Great day and a Sunday Morning well spent.

Guys keep the pics coming.
