2010 Blind Man Car Rally Mumbai. 7th Feb 2010 EDIT: Report & Pics added page 4

Its back again. The 2010 edition of the Blind Man Car Rally.

Here is a link to what it was like last year:
Report & Pics : The Blind Man Rally Experience, Feb 09.

Last year's starting lineup :

There was a huge turn out from Team BHP at the Rally last year. It was a great way to spend a Sunday doing what we love the most - driving and too for a good cause. Lets get into our cars this year again with our friends from the NAB. We hope to see rise in participation from BHPians this year. Please start posting your confirmations and the car you will be driving here.

About the Rally:

The Blind Man Car Rally is here again, and is scheduled for Sunday, the 7th of February 2010. Each driver will be paired up with a visually impaired navigator, who will read out step by step driving directions from the braile sheets provided. The aim is to follow the instructions as closely as possible, including mantaining the mentioned (relatively slow) speed per section. Checkpoints are set up along the route where your team's performance will be noted, and at the end, the teams who complete the course accurately and with minimum time penalties will be awarded the prizes!

The Cause:

The Rally is a fund raiser toward the construction of a school at Dhabon, located 33 km from Dahanu railway station in Maharashtra . The present 3000 sq feet of building did not have any tilling and the existing flooring was completely destroyed. The conditions were unhealthy and also unsafe for the children. The tilling of the present 3000 sq feet of the structure was done with the funds raised from the 2009 Rally. The funds which would be raised from this year's event will be utilized in building two extra floors on the existing structures, 7 toilets, barbed wire fencing to the entire school and a playground for the children. The Rally already has three successful years under its belt.

About the Round Table India:

We would like to introduce Round Table India (RTI) as an organization of non-political and non-sectarian men between the ages of 18 to 40. We have 167 Tables located in 75 cities and towns comprising of businessmen, entrepreneurs, technocrats and professionals. After nearly 60 years of Independence, 50 Million Indian children have never been to school. Ever! To reach out to this group of under privileged children, we proposed in 1998 to provide basic infrastructure for primary education in rural India. And reaching out to One Million children over a period of 10 years. Keeping the millions of under privileged children in mind, we declared our long-term national project as “Freedom Through Education (FTE)”. So far, RTI has been successful in building over 1000 schools at a cost of over Rs. 700 million. Nearly 6,00,000 children have been the beneficiaries.

I'm in too! Should be fun. Last time was really a blast.

Infact i've been in touch with my navigator from last year's rally and hopefully we will get to team up once again.

Too bad I can't participate this year. I'm off to the US on the 5th. One word of advice to the participants: DON'T drive too slow!
P.S. If you spot an elderly sardarji gentleman with a hearing aid, SNAG HIM as your navigator. He's BLOODY awesome!
