Mumbai super car race on Oct 23rd !!

Just read today in one of the papers (can't remember which)
There's gonna be some mumbai-pune-mumbai race that is supposed to be flagged off by Narain from Marine drive.
Ferraris, lamborghini, Mercs, Porche & other exotic cars are expected to participate.

Sounds very exciting as we'll get to see all the cars at one place.
Anyone has any more info about this ?

It's not really a race, more a drive to Pune and back. It follows a TSD format, so no speeding at all. But it will be a great chance to see all the exotics in one place at one time. Plus a few big bikes and big names as well.

That's even better. Cause if it was a race, it would end very fast.
Do u have any more details. Like which & how many bikes ?
Also do u know the exact route & timings ?

I'm sorry but what's TSD format ?

TSD=Time Speed Distance event. Basically means that yo get penalised very heavily if you reach a time control early. And the average speed is set taking into consideration the speed limits and road conditions.

However, I'm sure there are going to be short spells of flat out motoring on the Eway!

Route will be the regular Mumbai-Pune route. Other details wil be out in a couple of days. As far as who's in, I got no clue, but it is by invitation only, and I guess only the bollywood stars, industrilists etc will be in. So a few of their bikes would be there too.

I can bet John will be there on a Yamaha. maybe a few Busa's as well.

TSD stands for Time Speed and Distance format. Its more about average speeds and penalties.

Thanks for the explanation.

But how can they stop others from driving / riding along if they want to ?
After all they cannot block the Mumbai Pune highway for their exclusive use !
If we come to know of the stops, we could position ourselves strategically to get the best views.

Managed to lay my hands on the article.
It's on page 5 of the Mumbai edition of Hindustan Times.
Given below

Luxury cars to take part in 350-km race
HTC
Mumbai, October 6

DIE-HARD CAR enthusiasts will be able to feast their eyes on top line Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Porsches and Mercedes on October 23, when all these models will take part in the Voltas Moto Xtreme 2005 race.
Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan will flag off the round trip 350 km race on the MumbaiPune-Mumbai highway. Organised by About Entertainment Works, the event is being sponsored by Voltas and the proceeds of the race will go to the Save the Children, India - an NGO working for the empowerment of underprivileged children. The funds will be used to construct a five-storeyed school complex at Bandra-Kurla Complex for underprivileged children. The media partners for the event are Hindustan Times and TV Today.

Addressing the media today, brand ambassador for Save The Children and actor Suniel Shetty said the project for the hearing and speaking impaired is expected to come up by Christmas. "We will provide all facilities under a single roof to these special children and all the funds will be invested in the school," he added.

Just saw an ad in Hindustan times today.

It's called 2005 MOTO EXTREME & will be flagged off from the Taj at 8 AM on the 23rd.
Main sponsor is Voltas and media sponsors are Hindustan times & Headlines today.

If anyone had any idea about the route and stops with the timings, please post.
