VW is on a mission of global domination, with its Target of beating Toyota advanced by 3 yrs....they are leaving no stone unturned in getting their brand noticed in India.....see the Polo Cup came here so quickly.

Their participation in the Desert Storm 2011 cross country rally only seems logical.

Yesterday went for the first recce for entirely new section which will be the last section of Desert Storm 2011. Only thing I can say to competitors "IF you last till the last section the problems are ahead of you!!"

Is that for the extreme category or the Adventure TSD category as well.

Last event in DS 2010 we were fortunate to have a personal breifing from you ( u know where..), where you gave similar warnings, but my SX4 simply sailed through all the challenges.

So tell me, will it be tough for even "Who is the man now" SX4 in the TSD event???

That is for the Xtreme.

For Xplore the route has to be perfect level of difficulty yet not so much that every one gets stuck. Remember the Leg1B and Leg2 of DS10?

TSD will face "trickier" navigation challenges including road quiz with points. So no chance of grabbing few winks.

Will there be any virtual time checks this time? I reckon there were none last time.

Any one looking out for GPS units for Desert Storm? I know some one who is selling two Garmin 76CSx. One is used the other in packed condition. PM me if you are interested.

@MODS: Sorry if this is an infraction. Since I do not own the units and people participating in the storm may be interested and hence this post.

Desert Storm 2011 - Section preview

Back from first of final recces over the extended weekend.

Interesting tracks for the Nuclear Zone section. Long straights are now firm due to rains.
Desert Storm 2011-21112010063.jpg

Watch out for sharp turns through shrubs and trees as they can shove the vehicle over on to two wheels or worse!
Desert Storm 2011-21112010062.jpg

The Pokharan Nuclear Zone section is now extended in both directions and now runs on and on. We could barely finish by sun down!
Desert Storm 2011-21112010064.jpg

The last years tracks of Bad Max have disappeared and without a GPS in hand I doubt we would have made it out
Desert Storm 2011-22112010067.jpg

Despite GPS we returned to same point again and again till we found our way out. Reason heavy erosion across the old path.
Desert Storm 2011-22112010068.jpg

A new section has been identified for just that extreme all out fast pedal to metal stuff. Just watch out for sudden twists. Slightest turn of the steering to meet the twist and the vehicle slides out of control!

Dunes and sand drifts in the Bikaner Bhujiya section means new level of experience

Interesting pictures indeed. Seems it will be more fun this time. But with a GPS how come you kept coming back tot he same point? Is it not the whole point of having one?
