Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder - Details Emerge. EDIT : Now officially unveiled!

After almost no information or rumors on the much anticipated 458 Italia Spyder, some interesting words finally has started to trickle down from Maranello. Taking basic lessons from the California, the new Spyder from Ferrari is reportedly wearing a hardtop convertible roof rather than the much sought after rag-top version. Will it lose the "drool window" glass engine cover? Will hardcore soft-top aficionados (like me) be pleased? Only time will tell.
Quote:
The Ferrari 458 Spider is coming and our esteemed colleagues over at Piston Heads are reporting that the new variant will be coming with a folding hard-top roof.
According to the report, it seems Ferrari has solved problems related to a folding hard-top roof for the 458 (perhaps having learned a few tricks from the folding metal roof of the California model) - whereas the 458's open-top predecessor, the F430 Spider, came with a canvass top.
The transparent engine cover will have to go, though, but the 4.5 liter V8 remains the same.
The report can't say whether the roof will be made of metal or glass or how exactly it is configured for opening.
We'll know more soon enough, as the Ferrari 458 Spider is due for an unveiling at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

Although spyders/convertibles of their hard-top counterparts have usually looked so much better than them,i dont think it will be the same case for the 458 spyder. The lines of the 458 is so near perfection, very taut but at the same time flowing so gracefully over the bodywork, the spyder i my opinion will not be able to usurp that.

The second & third renderings looks hot!
But i do hope the see through engine bay is retained, even though i wonder if they can do that while keeping the curves & the lines of the 458 intact.

The car looks incomplete, but I have never been a spyder fan except for the Porsche's rendering.

The original just looks gorgeous, why take her top off

Looks hot from the Side profile (The first, second and third pic). It does look incomplete in the third. The hard top looks so much better

Looks a bit odd IMO. Prefer the hardtop anyday. It doesn't stand out as much as the hardtop does. Thanks for sharing scorcher!

I bet the car will look better in the flesh than it does in the pictures. It is always the same with all Ferrari Convertibles. And that said, This is going to be my next "Fav car of all time" for sure. With the roof off, it is sexier than the SLS for sure. And the SLS roadster is just a little too plain for me.

The 458 Italia always seems to look good from the sides and the back. For some reason from the front it just doesn't look as good. I'm a hardtop fan myself and very glad they decided to that way for this car. Soft tops just feel soo flimsy :P

More Information and Renderings Surface!

More details on the upcoming Ferrari 458 Italia Spider have been reported by our colleagues over at TeamSpeed.com.
The most recent report confirms that the 458 Italia Spider will, indeed, be getting a folding hard-top roof and will, for the first time in over a decade, feature a two-seat Ferrari Spider without a transparent engine cover. Power remains the same as in the 458 Italia coupe.
A source told Teamspeed that Ferrari conducted a showing of the 458 Spider to select group at its headquarters in Maranello last week which included two exemplars - one done in Rosso/Tan and another in Nero/Tan.
According to the report, the official unveiling will happen this fall with production commencing in the new year. European deliveries on the continent will begin in the first quarter of 2012 while UK delivers start later on in the third quarter. Shipments of the car to the United States will come after that.
No pricing details available yet.

I don't care about the slightly lardy backside, or the slightly disproportionate lines. If I had the money, I'd buy this car, go into a tunnel and bury the loud pedal.

Read in a Facebook page that Ferrari is launching the Italia Spyder tomorrow?

It was supposed to be debuted at Frankfurt this September, have they pre-poned it?

One more rendering.

Leaked Pictures!

These, reportedly, are NOT renderings but actual leaked pictures of the Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder which is slated to debut at Frankfurt this September. Though the images does look a bit graphic, We've seen these very "graphic" styled pics when Ferrari officially released the F430 and 458 too.

Re: Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder - Details Emerge. EDIT : Now officially unveiled!

I don't know why, but the last picture, especially, reminds me of the Ferrari F50. The vents on that sculpted engine cover give it a very raw Ferrari-appeal. Something that I felt was amiss in the 458 Coupe.

Don't get me wrong, the 458 is a stunning car, especially in the flesh. But there is something about this Spyder that rings several 'classic-Ferrari' bells.
