Maserati Levante SUV (earlier called Kubang) - Revealed at Frankfurt!

Maserati did this? Erm, looks more like a European or Korean job. May please the masses but apart from the grill ripped off from the Quattroporte, nothing looks Maserati to me.

Mods: I faintly remember seeing a Maserati SUV thread on the forum but couldn't find it despite multiple search attempts. Please merge this with that thread if it still exists. Thanks.

The highly-anticipated Maserati Kubang concept has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Designed in-house, the Jeep Grand Cherokee-based model has a prominent grille, front fender vents and LED headlights. Further back, a sloping roofline leads to a uniquely styled tailgate which will undoubtedly cause visceral reactions.
The company declined to release specifications, but said the production model will be "100% Maserati" with a next-generation engine produced by Ferrari. It will be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission which promises to deliver an engaging driving experience. Additionally, the suspension, brakes and steering system will be unique to the luxurious sport crossover.

I agree. The side and the rear look a little similar to the nissan Juke IMO.

Edit: the rear tail-lamps look very Q5'ish.

Edit 2: Come to think of it, the head lamp looks very similar to what we see on Hyundais now a days

Yupp, the side lines definitely reminds one of the Infiniti FX.

The original Maserati brothers who founded the company will die a second death if they could see this abomination now!

Why Maserati?Why?

What is with Aston Martin? First the pointless Cygnet and now this. Why jump on the ugly crossover bandwagon? They should just stick to making fast, racy beauties that are objects of desire.

Re: Maserati Kubang SUV - Revealed at Frankfurt!

This is what has happened:

The designers at Maserati knew that they cannot omit some of the Maserati cues, like the 3-air-flanks on the front fender, the egg-crate grille, the Quattroporte-like window-line, etc. So they have taken all these beautiful elements that make a Maserati what it is, and stuck it onto something that looks like it's come from South Korea or the Infiniti SUV stable.

So sad.

^^ You caught me napping Scorcher, or make that fast asleep!

Like the Aston Lagonda, the Maser Kubang (!) is a poor effort from the Italian lifestyle marquee.

Re: Maserati Kubang SUV - Revealed at Frankfurt!

That has got to be one of the worst-looking cars to ever be thought of putting into production. Who at Maserati thought crashing a GranTurismo with a Murano+Q5+FX45 was a good idea?
What was wrong with sports car makers making just sports cars?

Ok,I might receive a lot of flak for this, but I somehow like it! Its a got a very purposeful, taut stance. The Cayenne might look ugly, but for me this somehow hits the spot. And you gotta love those headlamps!

Re: Maserati Kubang SUV - Revealed at Frankfurt!

So the Cayenne has a competition in the ugly stakes now from an equally hallowed sports car marque.

Re: Maserati Kubang SUV - Revealed at Frankfurt!

Why did Maser have to ruin their range with this mash up of Hyundai and Audi! I sincerely hope the real thing looks absolutely nothing like this

Re: Maserati Kubang SUV - Revealed at Frankfurt!

Last heard this was supposed to be based on Dodge Durango, word around was Masserango. Seems they based it on the grand cherokee and surprisingly it came out of the foundry with the looks of an Infinity or Murano and the butch-ness of a Q7 with stunning alloys.
@Scorcher, were the specs provided by them.
