Yes it's possible that image made it appear so.
Those few inches are enough to assure me it wont look like a sports sedan. Thanks Karan for the comparison figures, it was really informative.

A very early stage artistic rendering which I believe, looks nothing like the real deal. Other than maybe some character lines.

Wow the rims look wicked. Are rims with such a deep set centre actually available? I doubt it; have never seen them on any vehichle, let alone BMWs. Is there any particular reason for the early artistic renderings to be so unrealistic and over the top ?
(Btw this is my maiden post. )

Re: BMW X4 production confirmed!

Yet another model from BMW. They have just gone berserk with their portfolio expansion - splitting the coupe/convertibles from 3 series, creating the Grand Coupe versions etc etc. There is a model overload. I wonder if they will have any sales benefit or will this just cannibalize their own models.

In the meanwhile the X4 'coupe' gets rendered;

The sleek 3 door design clearly indicates this to be an RR Evoque rival in the making

Re: BMW X4 production confirmed!

The X6 was deemed pointless as compared to the X5 and suitable only for getting heads to turn. I do remember a TG review with JC showing how badly the X6 fared over simple stuff like grass.

The X5 is the real thing and the new X3 is also stated to be quite good, but then really speaking buyers in this segment do not really go offroading in these vehicles so one might as well get something that looks better while at it and that is the slot that X6 and the soon to come x4 would occupy. They are not practically the best vehicles that one can have but they do look like true objects of desire. I never felt the X5 attracting me to it the way the X6 does. One just needs to stand next to the X6 (especially in the rear three quarters frame) and it's a magnet like no other. But this is also due to the sheer size of the X6. The X4 may have a hard time getting the same appeal as it will be much smaller.

Re: BMW X4 production confirmed!

When more and more spyshots started appearing on the various auto forums, its one bad news that BMW had to share; BMW X4 M is not likely to happen :(

Speaking with CarAdvice at the launch of the all-new 2014 BMW X5, BMW product communications manager Bernhard Ederer said he wouldn’t “bet on it” when asked about the possibility of an X4 M, given it would cannibalise X6 M sales.

BMW to launch 5 SUVs in 2014

This year, BMW will launch 5 SUVs to take on the competition.

The first SUV to hit the market is the production version of the X4 which will debut at the New York Motor Show in March this year.

The X4 is followed by the facelift version of X3 which is all set to be introduced at the New York motor show.
The underpinnings of both the SUVs are same and they also get a similar engine package. The four and six cylinder petrol and diesel engines come mated to 8 speed automatic gearbox.

Then the next launch from BMW is the next generation X6 which will debut at the Moscow Motor

The year ends with the introduction of the M variants of the X5 and X6. Both these performance SUVs is powered by a 4.4 L V8 engine which puts out 547 BHP of power.
