Re: Clarkson says this year's Top Gear Christmas special will be in India

I doubt they will use Indian cars, they might if we are lucky. I mean in all these specials its not like they have used local cars, its more about the place and the challenges than the local cars.

But other than Polar Special, they didn't bring the cars with them too. They were all locally purchased/borrowed from the respective countries. Its harder yet to believe they will drive supercars in India.

Akshay that's not correct. In all their big films they have bought the cars in the local used car markets.Infact in the Vietnam film they used locally bought mopeds and bikes. However as regards them using a gypsy I am sceptical because Captain Slow AKA James actually used a Suzuki 1.3 Jimny, which is very close to the Gypsy we have in India,in their Bolivian adventure. They would more likely use an Ambassador.

The US West Coast Special had supercars! Hope they do a cross-country in some uber-sexy cars!

Re: Clarkson says this year's Top Gear Christmas special will be in India

Some of the funnier things I can imagine
  • Jeremy tries to fit in an 800 or Alto
  • James May driving an auto-rickshaw
  • Hammond's take on the Mahindra Thar
  • All of them trying to navigate the streets of Delhi, Kolkatta, or any major city
  • Jeremy instigating some religious or political group
  • An Ambassador being used as an off-roader
  • A Nano bursting into flames with James May inside of it
  • Jeremy trying to take a Ferrari (or any superlow supercar) over an oversized speedbreaker
  • Them driving through slums

Right, they bought from the used market, but they didn't necessarily buy local company cars.

I prefer the Top Gear specials were they use cheap old second hand cars which occasionally break down! The US Special were they used super cars was OK, But the best Top Gear road trips were with cheap old cars. Like the African road trip with W123 Merc, Lancia, And the 60's Opel.

Re: Clarkson says this year's Top Gear Christmas special will be in India

It will be good to see the reaction of petrolheads who always laugh at his jokes when he makes fun of India. Somehow we Indians are too sensitive about our country and many people are unable to take a good joke for what it is: A joke!

Re: Clarkson says this year's Top Gear Christmas special will be in India

I don't know about the others, but I laugh even harder when he makes a joke about India or Indians.

He is basically a stand-up comic with tremendous knowledge about cars. If we start taking stand-up comics seriously, then they wouldn't even exist! Look at Russel Peters. 70% of his jokes are targeted at Indians, and we digest it without thinking twice. So what's wrong if Clarkson makes a teeny tiny comment!
