Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

Mod Note : Team-BHP's Range Rover Driving Report has been uploaded at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread.

Source: AI

An all-new, fourth-generation Range Rover flagship is slated for a 2012 launch, and insiders claim it will be the most radical and technically advanced car in the brand’s history.

Codenamed L405, the Mk4 Range Rover picks up on the sporty styling of the new Evoque and, in so doing, drops a number of long-established Range Rover design cues. The interior will feature a big leap in quality and luxury, cementing the Range Rover firmly in the global market as an out-and-out luxury car. The Range Rover Mk4 will be built around a new pressed aluminium monocoque, so it will be much lighter than the current car despite an increase in size. The new aluminium platform is slightly wider and around 25mm longer as well.

I still prefer the boxiness of the current gen Range Rover. Do you think this styling would work? Considering it is an off roader?

Re: Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

Design is a carry over from the Evoque and that is not a bad thing at all. This fantastic looking Range Rover is expected to be bigger yet much lighter than the current model. Love it!

The earlier model looks brawny & masculine, this one does not. I personally prefer the old one (old school SUV?!)

Re: Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

That looks like a PS job to me, sort of an enhanced Evoque. I've seen the spy pictures of the forthcoming Range Rovers and it doesn't look a bit like this.

This is the Range Rover Evoque (Range Rover Evoque | Land Rover UK). Definitely a stunner, though a departure from the traditional boxy design.

Re: Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

It looks stunning. But it should be launched along side the current Range rover series. The current lot has an appeal which seems difficult to replace, boxy yet beautiful/brawny.

Re: Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

We are talking about a similar dilemma like Old versus New TFort The Boxy/Butch vs the toned down Soft look. Butch always makes you feel want it just like a few who have chosen to pick current TFort instead of waiting for the new one coming soon. And surely Range Rover wouldn't need to make roads into market in whatever form it will find its demand anyway for those craving for it. Even if this one looks softer, I would like this, this has a different boldness projecting from its face with a bit of mischievousness in the eyes and open jaw (black and siver bumper). I think it will work surely.

Re: Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

What they could do with the next gen is offer the Vogue in the trademark 'Range' look (boxy) & the Sport can take some design cues from the Evoque. Besides this, the supercharged petrol should be offered on both trims along with a V8 diesel and what we have is a winning combo.
Not that the present duo is doing badly

These are already available like you mentioned.

I think the Vogue will stay similar to what it is while taking some design cues from the Evoque, hopefully it won't become as radical as the Evoque.

Re: Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

Although I like this design. It seems like a PS job as it's a bit too similar to the Evoque. I hope RR is not going the VW of design!

Re: Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

I am hoping this is not going to be the design theme to be implemented on their flagship Vogue model. Maybe the RR Sport would look more appropriate with its sporty pretensions and a generally younger clientele. The boxy design of the current RR has aged very well and is a timeless design. And as somebody mentioned , this does look like a PS on the evoque shape.

Re: Radical 2012 Range Rover revealed

The Evoque looks sportier, and this one here means business. Personally I like this more, and hope they plonk in the advanced version of the 2.0Ltr 237bhp engine of Evoque in it.

Wait a sec, check again. If i am not mistaken, the current Vogue is not available with the supercharged petrol engine.

The next-generation 2013 Range Rover will be getting a 'radical' new styling, according to a report by Autocar.
In the recently spy photos we've seen of the 2013 Range Rover, we've already been able to discern a little of the prototypes' shape, which is said to mimic that of the Evoque.
According to Autocar, the Mk IV Range Rover, codenamed the L405, will be made from an aluminum chassis and will aim for an ultra-luxury cabin refinement. The new model will feature a more steeply raked windshield and a sloping roofline that extends the car (by some 25 mm) and makes for more rear legroom by about 125 mm. Longer rear doors will also make for better access to the rear bench. It's sleek styling will also be reflected in the slimmer head- and taillight clusters.
Engines on offer will be similar to those available today but some reports are that a new supercharged V6 will also be part of the lineup.
Looking to reach "Bentley levels of craftsmanship and quality", according to what one source told Autocar, the model will sell for more than £100,000 in some fully-equipped guises.
The new Range Rover will also be sharing many components with the new Jaguar XJ.
