Well... Its a good thing the world is supposed to end by 2012!

Diesel-electric hybrid? On an evolution? I'm not sure how to react. Was totally shocked for or a few seconds after i saw the thread title. But thinking more about it, imagine the torque this monster combination would have! Would be a locomotive experience, wheel spinning to glory!

Will it be a fun to drive experience? God knows!

Am I seeing this right?! I am NOT going to believe this till it is officially announced. Manufacturers like Honda, Ferrari and Mitsubishi has resisted diesel power all this years and all of a sudden a diesel evo. Hard to digest. Some other model would have been understandable but will mitsubishi actually take such a huge risk with the evo? A petrol hybrid is understandable but a diesel hybrid??!!

If nothing else it does go to say that diesel technology is on a roll..after the German trio there are others realising what diesel can technology can do. Interesting development.

for a car that was designed as a technology showcase, it kinda make sense.
Finally another car after the R8 for the dieselhead to lust after

First of all, I am glad that Mitsubishi has not decided to kill off the Evo from their lineup. It just reinforces one point - the growth of the 'diesel' fuel continues unabated.

All said and done, not in the wildest of dreams had I ever thought that the Lancer Evo would one day be a diesel hybrid. But, if they can retain the legendary ride and handling of the Evo series and with a targeted 0-100 kph time of 5 seconds (read somewhere today), the Evo XI is going to be as much, if not more, fun to drive as its iconic predecessors. Bring it on Mitsubishi!

If somebody could enlighten me on the reasoning behind having a diesel-electric over a gasoline-electric, especially when the car you're talking about was all about going real fast around corners?

Carpoint-AU is running an article on Mitsubishi planning a Lancer Evolution comeback. It appears that the companies restructuring attempts & collaboration with the Renault-Nissan alliance seems to have paid off, & the company is headed for making a profit in 2013, after several years of dismal sales & losses.

Speculation is rife about a performance hybrid being developed for the Evolution X’s successor.

Word is that the Mitsubishi is planning on developing a successor to the current variant. So with that in mind, it was decided to speculatively render how a future Evo could look;
