You know scopriobharath, I thought so too. What is there not to like about the GT-86? Then again, this thread is a couple of months old and its runs to just four pages.

So I'm just wondering, would enough of us be willing to spend 17-18 lakhs on a GT-86 to justify Toyota's expense at bringing in this baby as a CKD?

Well, it could be great for the brand if they could bring it here. The only real 'entry-level' sports car you could buy today is probably the Nissan 370Z. If you don't count the Mini Cooper S, and logically you shouldn't.

Unfortunately, almost everyone would want an AT in a car that costs more than 30 lakhs. So the crowd it caters to, shrinks further.

Toyota might have a minuscule market for it, so they could do what Fiat tried by bringing the 500 for a short span. We will see more entry-level luxury / niche cars in the market so you could never know. Even if they bring in a limited number just to taste the waters.

In the case of the 86, both the AT and MT costs almost the same. But almost all the reviewers have panned the AT for its power sapping nature.

Anyways, even if Toyota plan to offer this in India, I believe it will easily be in the 30 lakhs+ category

GT86 sets world's longest drift

German Harald Müller managed to record a monster 144.126 km drift - which is 89.55 miles. He drifted the GT86 for a whopping two hours, 25 minutes and 18 seconds, completing 612 laps of the 235.5-metre course in the process.

It was a soaking wet circuit though. The GT86's engine was unmodified, and so pumped out the standard 200bhp.
