Oh My God! That is one ugly looking car. The first time i say it i was reminded of the Indigo/Dzire, the boot appears to be stuck later on. It may not really go well here in India.

The headlights resemble Fiesta Classic, side profile + alloys = Etios, tail lights = Micra / Pulse !! But I kind of like the overall package. I would not call it ugly, but it isn't beautiful either. I would pick this up over Dzire any day for the looks. But from a company that designed the "Sonic" [next gen U-VA/Aveo], this is a step down!

God, I hope this car never makes it to India. Chevy's two recent launches - the Cruze & the Beat - have worn very futuristic, funky clothes and that has greatly helped the brand. Launching a car that looks old & outdated will do it no good.

Focus on more important stuff, Chevy.

Oh God please no! Not another Etios! Launching this in India would make other manufacturers think that entry level sedans are supposed to be ugly, and encourage them to make more ugly entry level sedans.

On positive note, the rear seats look spacious from the pics, unlike Beat and Cruze.

I generally browse a lot and post very little since most of my thoughts echo with other fellow bhpians. I would like to keep a thread clean by not stating the obvious, but this one - It really woke me up

So it appears that GM did not really learn from the mistakes of Pontiac Aztec! The previous generation Cobalt was no great looker but it was at least consistent with its design. It aged faster and was no longer considered a competition to the Civis and Corolla's. But this thing might get written off flat out from the beginning.

I do not want to belittle the efforts of the designer behind this, but man to get influenced by so many cars and trying to incorporate them in one - a complete bad idea.

To my eyes, the angular sides seems do not complement the oversized rounded headlamps. The rear tail lights resemble much like the Scion TC's and the ICE and HVAC layout has an eerie resemblance to Jazz. For some reason, Hyundai seems to have got it right with the fluidic design very well into its cars making them look futuristic. After the 2012 Civic disaster, I think the crown would have to be handed over to the new elantra.

GM has some very good designs in its arsenal, I wonder why it went ahead with this?

I do not think this 2 generation old Vectra (the one that was sold in India) mini-me will not make it here. The SAIC-GM developed Chevrolet Sail is supposed to enter India next year.

It is unlikely they will have two entry level sedans in India.

What happened to their Sonic Hatch/Sedan?
I thought they were taking it forward?

May be its just me?

The windows size seems to too small for the vehicle. Mix of Etios and Verito

Nice interiors. Hopefully they give this 60:40 in all variants.

The source clearly mentioned Europe, SouthAmerica, MiddleEast and nowehere mentions Asia. This will probably replace the Aveo in the other regions/US and would be priced at $13k.

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Cobalt - The new global entry-level sedan from Chevy

I came across this article on the internet GM planning Chevrolet Optra replacement « Automobz.com’s Official Blog. Is this the Cobalt? From the emblem layout on the front grill, it looks to be a Honda though the article claims that it's an update for the Optra.

I got a quotation for the Optra two weeks back and was going to make a decision this week, but there seems to be so much stirring in the GM stables that I think I'll wait for a couple more months.

Isn't the Cobalt a compact sedan in the U.S.A?
These pics make it look more like subcompact car and a very bad one in that(by styling)

Re: 2012 Chevrolet Cobalt - The new global entry-level sedan from Chevy

They used the name "Cobalt" for predecessor of chevy cruze in US. This one looks like a subcompact. Since chevy sonic is already in that segment, this car probably will not be released in US.
