On the styling front, the Alltrack has plastic body cladding, matte chrome accents, an increased ride height and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the cabin features titan silver trim, faux aluminum pedals and stainless steel door plates. Other goodies include automatic climate control, power windows and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The boot holds 603 liters (21.3 cubic feet) of luggage, but that can be expanded to 1,731 liters (61.1 cubic feet) when the rear seats are folded down.
Under the hood, four engines are available. The petrol variants are rated at 160 PS (118 kW / 158 hp) and 210 PS (155 kW / 208 hp), while the diesels produce 140 PS (103 kW / 138 hp) and 170 PS (125 kW / 168 hp). Despite the wagon's off-road intentions, all-wheel drive is only standard on Alltracks with the two most powerful engines.

Seems like a decent all-rounder. Given a choice I'd still go for the A4 Allroad Quattro with the 3.0L V6

Re: 2012 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

Great car, but I highly doubt if this will ever make it to the North American market. Even if they bring the wagon (which they did with the 2007 to 2010 VW Passat B6), I don't think North America will get the AWD version. And finally, if the AWD version does come here, I'll feel really short changed as I just picked up a 2008 Passat with AWD!

Re: 2012 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

VW comes out with an updated version of Passat Alltrack!

"The Passat based Estate now comes with a better ground clearance (165mm as compared with 135mm), a better approach angle (16 degrees again 13.5 previously) and a ramp angle that has been moved to 12.8 from 9.5 degrees previously. As is obvious, the car comes with 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
The VW Passat Alltrack comes with a choice of as many as four engines- a 2.0-liter TDI diesel with either 140PS (138bhp) or 170PS (168bhp), a 1.8-liter TSI petrol pushing out 160PS (158bhp) and a 2.0-liter TSI delivering 210PS (208bhp)."

Cheers!
