re: Ford Ecosport Rival: The VW "Taigun"

What is the probability that it will priced less than the SKODA YETI ?
Duster and Ecosport top out at 14L OTR ? Unless it matches the same price segment its not a rival. Lets wait and see if it comes to the Indian shores and if it does what the price gonna be.

The Tiguan is there in the Yeti range, but in the manner VW position their cars (in relation to Skoda), the Tiguan is more expensive than the Yeti, and at this moment it may not work very well in our market – especially with the Big Size for Big Money concept. The Yeti itself is struggling, despite of being an excellent car.

From the looks of it, the Taigun looks very promising for India – based on the Up! platform and sub-4m in length, this could easily go against the likes of Ecosport.

Re: Ford Ecosport Rival: The VW "Taigun"

More details of the Taigun emerge.

Volkswagen says that the Taigun is just a concept, but claims the car could easily be put into production at a later date. Given how eager the brand is to expand its range, it seems highly likely the Taigun will reach a Volkswagen showroom at some point in the next few years.
For extra practicality the top two-thirds of the tailgate swings up, while the lower third opens downward, permitting access to the 9.9-cubic foot cargo area. Despite the front-wheel-drive setup and showy 17-inch wheels, Volkswagen says the Taigun has enough ground clearance to handle mild off-roading.

Re: Ford Ecosport Rival: The VW "Taigun"

I like the design, it looks cute. VW has a certain clarity and 'cleanliness' in their design. They keeps things simple and don't go haywire.

MM please take note, lose the cheetah. XUV is a solid platform that could do with some clean design.

It should be slightly bigger though. When designing you have to avoid the hatch on stilts look.

Re: Ford Ecosport Rival: The VW "Taigun"

VW shouldn't have any problem in putting this in production. Its based on the UP! platform, if I'm not wrong.
So, this being a sub 4m base, the pricing (if launched in India) would also be around the Ecosport/Duster price range.

The initial pics do look nice. Elegent yet sporty. Pop in the 1.6TDi engine, and you have a decent performer there!

Re: Ford Ecosport Rival: The VW "Taigun"

I not only the likes, I the very much likes. This is a very very clean design, see the elements taken for the rear-door design. The faux-2-door-but-is -actually-a-four-door is the best ever that I have seen. No quirks, looks nice, butch and understated but appealing at the same time. The design arches are good, not overstated
(like the hummer) , and it doesn't compromise on the high tech plus SUV look as well. Hopefully the difference between the concept and the real thing isn't going to be much. Even if it looks like a baby Tiguan, its' going to succeed for sure. And lets not forget that the reason all these baby SUVs have the dudes going wet in the tongue is the looks, over all the practicality and efficiency and small footprint and other blah-blah. This one takes the cake from my perspective. Some news items said India was on the target list along with China, Brazil and all the new usual suspects, but India was first on that list. And count me as being one of the first in line with a cheque, when it comes to India. I think there's no need to say 'if'.
Good job, VW! Now please do us a favour and bring it in with a good steering and not a dumb EPS!

Re: Ford Ecosport Rival: The VW "Taigun"

Expected launch in later 2014 or early 2015.

Based around a stretched version of Volkswagen's NSF (New Small Family) steel platform used for the Up city car, the Taigun's exterior styling was developed by a team of in-house designers working under Volkswagen brand design boss Klaus Bischoff.

Quote:
Ulrich Hackenberg, said the production version of the new SUV is "not only planned to be sold in South America but around the world.

Rivals to this would be the likes of Mini countryman, Nissan's Juke, Chevrolet's Trax. Could expect a new family of vehicles including similar sized offerings from Skoda, Seat and possibly Audi.

More Clearence, More Plastic, More Badges, Roof Rails... Isn't what you call a sincere effort. Why don't we have dedicated cars like the Duster and Trax?

NOTICE: Mods, please move it to appropriate thread if it's hijacking the present one. Thanks for your patience, support!

How i wish it was in India instead. These CUV's (though as you pointed out not dedicated ones ) With better ground clearances these make better sense for the indian pot ridden roads.

The Fit Twist looks hot. Any ideas about it landing on indian shores ?

Re: Ford Ecosport Rival: The VW "Taigun"

The Taigun is characterized by compact dimensions and proportions which are balance by its short overhangs and a relatively long wheelbase with the protruding fenders which give it a very dynamic stance, and the interiors with its simple design and the use of colors are really refreshing to look at.

VW pleased with response for Taigun, green lights it for production

Quote:
According to a recent report published on Brazilian website CarPlace Brazil, Volkswagen is pleased with the positive response received from showcasing the Taigun compact SUV in Brazil and has planned for its production.

The reports elucidates that although the Taigun had its mechanicals in place and wasn’t purely an exterior design study, production is likely to start only after 2.5 years of further development.

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

Skoda Polar will be positioned between Taigun and Yeti!

The Skoda Polar will be based on the MQB platform that underpins the VW Golf and Audi A3. The entry-level model gets FWD, while a variant with AWD is also planned.
The Polar will be around 4.1 m long and will be aimed squarely at the customers of the Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and higher variants of the Renault Duster. It design and engineering formula will be same as the super-hit Duster – robustness and simplicity – and like the Yeti, despite its proportions, won’t look like a “monster” the report adds.

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

India could get a 'compact' Taigun, if feasible!

If VW India gets the go ahead to produce the Taigun, it could be stretched even further, according to Hackenberg. “We could stretch the Taigun closer to the four-metre mark (the cut-off point for lower excise duty) and further increase the wheelbase. This will offer more interior space, especially rear legroom which is important for Indian customers,”
