re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

I hope that these CUVs are atleast as spacious as the Duster. Anything smaller would not be practical and might not work.

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

There is some talk of VW introducing the CrossPolo in India. It is said to be powered by a 1.5 liter diesel power-plant. Here is the ACI report on it: http://www.autocarindia.com/News/325...kly_newsletter

We could expect this Polo to hit the 10 lakh mark and perhaps go beyond it as well.

So where does this leave the Taigun then? VW will have a narrow window to position this car (b/w this and the Yeti) I suppose.

Don't believe all this is happening so fast in India!! Look at the range of cars that have launched in the last three years. I have always envied the Europe and Americas for the cars people owned there. But now I only envy their roads... congratulation to all the BHPians.

I don't think VW is attempting to fight the small-SUV/crossover war with the CrossPolo. It is likely to be a short-term experiment to generate some excitement about the Polo in general.

I think the Taigun (if it arrives) can overlap with the Vento in terms of pricing.

Cross Polo is going to go the same way the Fabia Scout went, by the time VW gets the Taigun ready for India. So, they really dont need to worry about positioning.

But i feel at some point - this mini SUV craze is going to stabilize. Afterall - you get proper C segment sedans for the price of some of these mini SUVs. Only difference is the go-anywhere ability which many people desire, thanks to our infrastructure issues.

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

Yup, but if it's going to come with that 1.5 diesel, it will be much more to VW than what the Scout is to Skoda. It will be a product that can be taken seriously unlike the Scout which is just a tarted up Fabia with an unreasonably bloated price-tag.

I know, positioning isn't going to be a problem. But will a 1.5 liter diesel hatch with cladding and priced above 10 lakhs work in our market? Won't people rather look at something more substantial like the EcoSport, or the Duster, or perhaps the Taigun itself?

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

Tiguan will clearly be a sister model from VW to the Yeti. The form is identical except for the curves which are more soft & pronounced to give it a more contemporary look. Consequently, it will be priced at a premium to Yeti, as is the brand positioning norm in the family.

For a sub-10L Compact SUV look towards the late-coming Ecosport from stumbling Ford, or the force-converted Swift called XA Alpha.

Only Duster is the real C-SUV. I just wish it was refined a little more and offered in Automatic Tranny.

I wonder why people refer to the bread-box Quanto in the same breath in this thread and elsewhere. Its not a SUV no matter what M&M might dream to position it as!

It took a while to realize that these are 2 cars! Why do they have such similar sounding names (VW cars already look very identical and name is often the only way to tell the difference )

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

The Cross Polo with a 1.5L diesel tag should be just around Vento price line.
But VW wont try to fit Taigun within the X-Polo and Yeti. But more importantly in the bracket as Ecosport/Duster.
But I am sure, they would price it a bit higher, thanks to their brand image.

But yes many of these products would over lap with XUV, which makes it look even more VFM. It would only be
priorities which would decide what one needs. Cross pricing between such products is bound to happen.

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

While watching the VW India MD speak to an auto-journalist, he was very apprehensive about new products for India apart from small cars. Though from a segment point of view, Compact SUV/MPV he quoted were definitely ripe. But he made a statement about strategy. With this diesel-petrol tug of war, they will wait till some kind clarity emerges for the long term. Till then they are not decided on any investment on this sector. So I don't think Taigun like concepts are coming here any soon.

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

VW’s Taigun is likely to be the first car on the Up platform (codename: PQ12) to come to India.

VW's Taigun SUV likely to be launched in 2016. It will come with new-generation diesel engines and a 1.0-litre, three cylinder turbo-petrol.

Quote:
It’s also likely that by the time the Taigun is launched in India VW will have launched a new range of state-of-the art compact diesel engines which would include a compact three-cylinder unit. VW’s R&D boss, Dr Ulrich Hackenberg told Autocar India. “A future three-cylinder 1.4-litre diesel is a possibility for the Taigun and we are looking at it.

VW's baby SUV to arrive in 2016!

Quote:
The Taigun’s priority markets would be China, India, Russia and Brazil where the Renault Duster is today at the top of the segment (except China of course).

Inside Out Pics & Details of EcoSport’s Rival – VW Taigun

Taigun gets a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor which is capable of producing 110PS of peak power and a very impressive 175Nm of maximum torque and comes coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
