Toyota Aqua unveiled

Came across an article in ZigWheels wherein Toyota Aqua has been revealed.

Quote:
Toyota, at the Tokyo motor show launched a smaller version of its fairly popular Prius, the Aqua, it is a very smart looking hatch as you may all agree. It is extremely fuel efficient, fetching 35 kilometers per liter, the prius fetches an average of 32 kilometers per litre. This happens to be the highest offered efficiency by a car of its kind till now.

Toyota aims to launch more than 10 models of these kind of gasoline cars by the year 2015, and this would make a great move for the “Green Revolution”, if the response is good. Toyota Motor Corporation aims that the sale of the car in Japan would reach a monthly high of 12,000 units. The price of the model starts at $21600 which is 11,42,973 INR. The Aqua comes with a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and has an electric motor. Aqua has a length of 3.9 meters as compared to 4.48 meters Prius and costs around 22% less than the leading model till date-Prius. Apart from this, the model has comfortable interiors, an elegant design. Aqua has an Exhaust-Gas Recirculation (EGR) system to cool down the engine and thus improve the efficiency. it is also equipped with a a battery powered power pump. The battery is made up of nickel metal hydride.

It is available in four colors – Earth Brown, Fresh Green, Cool Blue and Natural Gray.

A good catch! Finally a hybrid that looks cool! A great contender for a hot hatch modification. Since it was mentioned on Zigwheels, is there any indian connection to this car? is it heading our way?

First question in my mind : When does it land in India and at what price? The car looks very inetersting and state of art.

Re: Toyota Aqua unveiled

Even if it makes to India, do not expect it to be launched at less than 15L. Its high time that Govt should offer some subsidy on Hybrid vehicles

Re: Toyota Aqua unveiled

The 'bump' on the front above the logo seems to be inspired by the Toyota Echo. It fared poorly (even the predecessor of the Toyota Echo looked better; can't remember what it was called) but the Toyota Yaris that replaced the Toyota Echo was a hit.

@raVan

Yes, the subsidy is much needed - I don't really see a hybrid as an appealing option to Indians because of the high price. The Reva business model was dependent on the subsidy and the price they are offering the Reva for is no VFM.

+1 to that.

Apart from subsidy, if Toyota does bring this to India but as a CBU, even then it will be priced terribly.

In an ideal world, the Govt. ought to be partnering with Toyota to introduce such vehicles at affordable prices.

Many people want to do their bit for the environment but given the state of affairs, can't or won't.
