New VW Golf MK VI : A Tease

Computer generated images of the Golf MK VI expected to be launched in Europe in 2008 are out. The images show the Golf with the type grille, the front bonnet/hood lines where they meet the fenders are exactly the same as the Passat.

The most exciting part is the engine range. 1.4 L 80hp, 1.6L 102 hp, 1.4 TFSI 120hp and the all new 1.4 TSI 150hp, 2.0 FSI 150hp are going to be the petrol engines. Most interesting of course is the 1.4 TSI 150hp. That is the new super turbo engine that has already been discussed at this site. 1.4 and 150hp! This being the last year of the Pumpe Duse, the new Golf will be powered by a range of CRdi engines. 1.6 L Tdi 90 Hp, 1.9 TDi 105hp, 2.0 Tdi 140 hp and hold your breath a 2.0 Tdi 170HP!

Take a look at the pics :

Exactly my thoughts!

That should have been "The images show the Golf with the Audi type grille". Front grille makes the car look very Audi A3'esque. Question is how accurate is autobild in their predictions?

Golf Mk V designs were shown in early 2000. It took 6 years for them to actually release the car. Thats some time alright. In that case I wonder when the MK VI will be out . Either way the V is a big hit in Europe and some major enthusiasts in the US too. Unfortunately its over priced. The brand new cost for my MK 4 wit ha V6 was 27,000USD. For that cost you can buy a TSX or put 3 more grand n you'll buy a WRX.

ahhhhhh...I was so looking forward to this car. But i thought it was being launched in 2006 itself. Damn!! Nothing spectacular about the looks....i prefer the current generation in terms of looks. But I'd have those alloys and low-profile tyres! And like Amit said the best part is the 1.4l engine with the supercharger and turbocharger. i really do hope that the final product turns out to be better looking.

I guess these are just the initial pictures. Hopefully the actual car would be different looking. The grille doesnt look all that bad but thats maybe because i just love the grille. But from the side profile it looks more station wagon than hatchback. The engine options sound delicious though

available... 2006

Volkswagen - USA has already begun selling this car in GTI form available with a 2.0l turbocharged 4-cyl engine producing 200 hp. base starting price is $21,990.

the GOLF, however, is still sold in it's older form.
trim options available are:
the base GL - 2.0l 4-cyl engine producing 115hp, starting at $16,030.
the GLS trim available with the same engine as the GL but starting at $18,390 or with a 1.9l TDI engine producing 100hp, starting at $19,580.

and i just noticed that amit has already mentioned it here -> VW Gti!

Golf GTi looks too good to me. But then the question. how do they perform compared to Alfa Romeo's GT 2.0 that produces 165hp?

and what if Alfa Romeo 147 GTA comes into context?

errrrr....the current GTI in North America is the Mark V and the regular Golf is the Mark IV. Mark V versions of the regualr Golf are coming in June. This thread is talking about the next generation Golf coming in 2008. Thats the Golf Mark VI.

The websites always mention that 22,000 price tag. But by the time its on road with a decent package plus now that it has got great reviews from Europe in the US the darn thing costs 25grand. Its really unfortunate, dont you think. They should go atleast a little bit easy on the price.
About what you mentioned Dippy, have you also noticed that many car's under the VW umbrella, have very similar profiles. The Larger VW in the pictures above, the current Audi A3, The Seat Ibiza Valiant. Thank god atleast the engines are different on the Seat's. Audi's get the same 2.0T as the VW's. Sometimes this gets a little irritating when you go for expensive car's like the Saab for instance. The 9-2X has the same engine as a Subaru Impreza WRX. No exclusivity at all , all in the name of platform sharing, money saving or whatever. What do you guys think?

thats why they call it the base price - and generally all it includes is the engine, body, doors, seats !

every little bit you add-on increases the price till finally you have your dream car configured with all the toys that you've every wanted and find you can't afford it yet!

i tried configuring a Porsche Cayman S for kicks - base price $58,900. after all the fancy "optional" add-ons, the price had gone up more than $80,000. can you believe that!

yeah those over priced piece of craps..thats why i dont like porsche to buy...the price they tell you is no where near what you will end up paying..

porsche's arnt worth that much...in my opinion...until you are dropping 200 Gs on a car..price matters..and cayaman is not worth 80Gs..

i am going to test drive one soon..i sat in one 79.5G loaded one and its nice to look at and all..and the interior leather is good, but the dash...ooohhhh UGLY...anyways..i think a good price for that loaded cayman S should be may be 60k-65k no more..for the performance you get..

same goes for a 911 S, for 100 Gs you better be getting some head breaking performance but you dont..so a good price for that car is 80G...porsche are 20Gs too over priced..

You chaps might find it ugly or whatever, but, one glance at the above picture and I fell in love with it. It looks so agressive! Give it power to match its looks and we'll have a killer hatch! In comparison, the Merc A Class and BMW 1 Series are big time screw-ups. Blech!
