re: New SEAT Toledo revealed- Might be headed to India

Here's the complete report. Interior similar to Jetta.

The new Toledo Mk4 has a length of 4,480mm, meaning its 40mm longer than the Toledo Mk2 while it also rides on a 82mm longer wheelbase at 2,602mm. Like the Rapid, the Toledo is a notchback saloon and comes equipped with a wide-opening rear hatch.

Seat's proposal in the popular compact sedan segment will be offered with several engine and transmission options.

The petrol range includes the 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged units generating between 74hp (75PS) and 121hp (122PS), the most powerful versions of which will be offered with an optional 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission in addition to the standard manual gearbox.

Initial diesel options include a 1.6-liter TDI with 103hp (105PS) and from 2013, with 89hp (90PS).

The standard safety package for all Toledo models includes driver and passenger airbags, front side airbags and head/thorax airbags, while the base model also comes equipped with central locking, a two piece folding rear backrest and power windows in the front.

Seat said the 2013 Toledo will be launched initially in Spain and Portugal in mid-November and then in the rest of Europe and other markets during the course of 2013. According to the automaker, next to Spain, other key markets for the Toledo are Germany, Mexico and Turkey.

This car is based on the New Euro Rapid and the Octavia will be an all new car.

re: New SEAT Toledo revealed- Might be headed to India

In it's pursuit to become the world's no.1, VAG is "dating" badge-engineering route!

Past Tense: VAG=ace at platform sharing. See VW Phaethon, Audi A8, Bentley Continental GT, FS. No one of them are instantly tangible to the driver/buyer yet they share the same platform! Jetta, Octavia, Seat Leon, A3, TT, Golf, Beetle are off the same platform as well.
Present Tense: But now, they built the same car 2 times? Same with up!, Citygo, Mii(except the badges). It was upto platform only back then, now it's upto fenders, interchangable doors etc. This is definitely not encouraging for any car guy or bhpian.

I think this will be the new octavia in Indian market. I hear VW 1.4TSI from the Jetta and detuned 1.8TDI will be on offer for this car. Expected launch in Q4 this year or early Q1 2013.

Laura to continue till about 2014 when new model is launched. Even post launch it would take bout 2 quarters before its launched here.

I feel Skoda may not squeeze in another car between Rapid and Laura. Even if they want to, they have the Euro Rapid, Why would they borrow a car from Seat and badge it as a Skoda for just one market. Rapid in India has done good job of filling the gap between Fabia and Laura, i do not see any more gap to squeeze in another car unless they want overlap.

Next gen Laura will be called Octavia in India. Toledo is not related to Octavia.

There is no 1.8 TDI. There is either the 1.6 TDI in a single state of tune or the 2.0 TDI in 3 different power outputs.

I suppose it'll be the 1.6TDI which will hit us. Laura is expected to continue in India and the next gen is supposed to be slightly bigger based on the current Jetta. The EURO Rapide(based on the Toledo), will be put here as the Octavia as skoda has stated in their various press releases.
