Re: 2013 Toyota Corolla- Not too Far Away

Interesting differentiation of the models, have a look;

This is the Euro spec;

Hope you can spot the difference

I'd like to configure mine as the front of the US spec + the rear of the Euro spec

If Toyota gives this the 2L Diesel which is available internationally, it might just blow the competition away...

Also note the A/T box gear stick designs are different (I prefer the 2nd one as is easier to operate & gives a solidity feel;

I wouldn't say that the designs are different. It's just that one comes with the lever cover and the other does not. But the most glaring difference lies in the design of the instrument cluster, one has a twin-pod setup, while the other one has a more bolder three-pod setup!

I was hoping for the US spec variant however after viewing the video posted by you I'm glad they brought the EU version instead.
This one definitively seems to be much more 'premium' looking than the other one which comparatively seems a segment down, which it isn't.
Are the interiors the same on both cars? I ask since the interiors pictured in this thread have a 'sporty' look and feel to them and would compliment the US Corolla more.

Any idea about the dimensions of the car. It visually looks slightly smaller than the current gen. I know it is highly unlikely as cars are growing in size from model to model..

Only wish that toyota will introduce double clutch gear boxes. Do they double clutch in any of toyota/lexus models anywhere in the world, any idea?

I don't think they have any DSG equivalent tranny. However, even if they have, it is certain that it is not going to be available in Corolla at all. New Corolla is getting 7 speed iCVT internationally which is available in India spec Altis anyway.

Re: 2013 Toyota Corolla- Not too Far Away

The Corolla has clearly gone a class ( grade ) above.

Right since 1998 when the first one was launched with a 1.8 Petrol engine it crossed into the Corona territory. It had crossed Toyota Carina specs with the 1993 model itself.

With this version launched, Carina and Corona were eventually phased out from the more affluent markets.

What started as the Corolla Tercel, followed by Echo, Yaaris and now Etios in many markets is the entry level Saloon now.

Corolla has been upgraded to the next level with the Altis badge being a sportier version.

To compete in India Toyota will definetely launch the new Corolla with a lot of options.

Petrol & diesel with M/T and A/T options.

However with a very roomy Nissan Sunny launched in India, Toyota India needs to relook at the Corolla price.

I don't think so. Sunny and Corolla are from completely two different segments. Just because Sunny is as roomier as Corolla doesn't mean that Toyota needs price reduction.

Re: 2013 Toyota Corolla- Not too Far Away

Well on a one to one comparision today.

Entry level saloons :

Toyota - Etios
Honda - City
Nissan - Tida
Suzuki - Swift Dzire ( Liana )

Mid level Saloons

Toyota - Corolla
Honda - Civic
Nissan - Sunny
Mazda - 323
Mitsubishi - Lancer
Daihatshu - Applause
Subaru -

All car hire comanies too at all international airports rent Sunny and Corolla or Honda Civic at about the same price.

A new spacious Sunny and a new revamped Corolla are almost in the same class but the Corolla has a slight edge, more popular, technically slightly better.
But this new Sunny is no midget pushover either. They will compete in India on equal terms with Sunny enjoying the price advantage momentatily.

Yes, in international market, I will agree on that since Corolla and Civic both are priced differently in those market (less features compared to India spec Corolla). However, in India, Corolla and Civic are clearly a segment above with more goodies offered and with better materials used inside.
