2002 Ford Cougar - Bugatti Veyron

The vehicle is based around a 2002 Ford Cougar and while no self-respecting car enthusiast would mistake it for the real thing, it is quite an impressive replica. It features bodywork similar to the Veyron, albeit on a smaller scale, and even has the Veyron’s characteristic two-tone paint scheme. Even the interior is rather impressive, all things considering.

However, this is where things get rather ridiculous. The owner has listed it up for sale on eBay with a ‘Buy It Now’ price of $75,000, justifying the price by saying that he has spent $98,000 on the transformation.

Mustang as Bentley Continental GT

According to the Craigslist ad, this is a one-of-a-kind car that cost almost $100,000 to put together (you'd think one would buy a used Continental GT with that money), using an S195 Mustang GT chassis as a basis. It also features a Tokico suspension, 373 rear end and a Procharged 4.6-liter V8, churning around 550 horses.

Furthermore, the description states that the body kit on this Mustang is an original design, dressed up in $20,000's worth of original Bentley GT parts - such as the headlights, taillights, brake lights, reversing lights, AC vents, Breitling clock or the shifter handle. Other mods include the 15-inch six piston Brembo front brakes (14-inch rear brakes), 8" touchscreen DVD sat-nav and the Rockford Fosgate audio system.

The seller also points out that this kit car is cheaper to maintain and to drive than a real Bentley, and that according to him, it looks better than any Continental GT he's ever seen that costs under $300,000.

"This car is not a Bentley," writes the seller. "It is Much cheaper to maintain and drive daily. And looks better than almost any Bentley I've seen that's less than $300,000. To compare this car to an early 2000's Continental GT is pointless. Those cars are unreliable and cost a fortune to maintain. Literally the maintenance on one of those cars if something major breaks would cost you almost as much as this entire car. Those old ones also have outdated looking headlights and taillights and they don't have a $40k widebody. There is no comparison and I'm not trying to make one."

So there you have it. For a slightly negotiable $49,000 you can have this Continental GT lookalike with 8,400 miles on the clock, a Mustang 550 HP V8 and a manual transmission.

Mini Aventador Roadster Replica

The attention to detail is impressive, as besides its custom-made body panels, made to resemble those of the real Aventador Roadster, this replica also has a fully retractable hard top that disappears behind the seats. Moreover, it also gets a height-adjustable suspension and some moving exterior parts, such as the rear wing and side air intakes.

Jobs done on some of the cars are very good. Really liked some of the replicas. People except hardcore enthusiasts would easily pass most of these as originals, except for those where shoddy workmanship is quite evident and is 'on your face'.

Nissan Sentra to Ferrari F40

Aside from both being classified as road-legal automobiles, the only thing in common between a Nissan Sentra and a Ferrari F40 is well, nothing actually.

As far as the purpose for which they were built, the two nameplates couldn’t be more different, which is why this Ferrari F40 replica being sold on Craigslist looks as sad as it does. In fact, ‘sad’ doesn’t even come close to describing this atrocity, but anyway.

On the other hand, the Ferrari F40 is a mid-engine supercar built in the late 80’s as a direct successor to the 288 GTO. It was famously the last Ferrari model to be personally approved by Enzo Ferrari himself. It had almost five times as much horsepower as a 1990 Sentra, and could hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in roughly 4.7 seconds.

Fake Porsche Carrera GT

The vehicle is currently up for sale on eBay in the UK, and the seller wants £12,995 (equal to $16,770) for it. The ad also states that full specs for the car are unknown and that it has spent most of its time in a garage.

Very few of the cars are neatly done. Most are quite shoddy jobs. Though I have seen people posting some quite nice examples on the net. Also I can't understand why some people use a car which is an icon by itself as a donor car.
The most popular donor cars seem to be the Pontiac Fiero and the Toyota MR2. There have been quite a few nice kit cars based on the Corolla.
Sadly most of the donor cars are not available in India. It would be nice to have kit cars using the Swift Dzire, Hyundai Verna, Tata Indica/Indigo, Nissan Sunny etc as donor cars as these are available cheap in India.

I for one am not a fan. Most of these cars with their off proportion dimensions are fit to be in the Weird and Whacky Car Modifications thread.

However, that being said - there are a few companies that truly go a long way in getting some classic cars back to life, complete with modern mechanicals.

Classic Recreations is one such company, but of course their work and quality often results in super high pricing too. But I won't lie - I am tempted to own one of these beasts!
