Chevrolet, Man Utd in 25 mil pounds/season deal

In times of a pretty severe financial crisis at the club I've supported growing up, this news is some respite.

Quote:
Manchester United have revealed a bumper seven-year shirt sponsorship deal with car firm Chevrolet that is worth around £25million per season. The link-up - which will see the American company's name on the front of United's jerseys from the 2014-15 season - will boost the coffers at Old Trafford.
Manchester United gear up for fresh injection of cash with seven-year, £25m per season shirt deal with Chevrolet

Actually on many sites it is reported to be double of this figure (i.e upto GBP 50m per annum for 7 years). Plus there is a GBP 65m sign-on fee!

Total deal is in the region of $600m over 7 years.

Of course, officially, everything is under covers so the figures are all speculations. But given the timing of the deal (it does not kick in for 2 more years) the terms have to be substantial over the current GBP 20m with Aon. It is likely to be much more than 25m for sure.

Re: Chevrolet, Man Utd in 25 mil pounds/season deal

So the details are now out.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-0...-million.html?

The deal is worth USD 559m spread over 7 years! That makes it roughly 80m per year.

Actually it will be 70m for first season (2014) and then it increases every year by a small amount. Man Utd will also receive some payments in 2012 and 2013.

It is just insane on Chevy's part and brilliant on united's! This beats all existing shirt sponsorships by a huge margin.

United will now engage in improving their merchandising deal with Nike. The existing one was worth 300m over 10 years. It is expected to top 500m now.

Poor fella, he kinda messed up. But as a United fan, with the club's faltering finances, I've convinced to look at his sacking as collateral damage.

Who is this awesomely superlative negotiator in Man United's books getting them fancy deals?
