Hyundai HB20

Hyundai recently launched the HB20 hatchback!
This car sports the hyundai's Fluidic design theme. It kind of looks like a cross between the i20 & Elantra! The car looks bigger than the Jazz and the i20! This car has been exclusively launched for the Brazilian market. I guess it would take another year or so for this car to hit the Indian roads.

The car offers 1L and 1.6L engines! There's also a 1.6 A/T version.
The 1.6 is a regular 4 cylinder engine. The 1L is a 3 pot engine.

Here are a few more specs:
Overall Length 3,900mm
Overall Width 1,680mm
Overall Height 1,470mm
Wheelbase 2,500mm

Engine 1.0 KAPPA FFV
Disp 998cc
Max.Power 80PS@6200rpm
Max.Torque 100Nm@4500rpm

Engine 1.6 GAMMA FFV
Disp 1,591
Max.Power 128PS@6000rpm
Max.Torque 162Nm@5000rpm

Re: Hyundai HB20

Hyundai has really got the design aspect straight with the Fluidic theme. I really liked the rear end and would really love to see this on the Indian roads. Shouldn't this have come on board as a replacement to the current i20?

I dont think so this will replace the i20! I mean! Look at the interiors! Surely will be priced above 7L !

Re: Hyundai HB20

Great looking, as most of Hyundai's new cars are today.

I don't think the HB20 will ever make it to India. For one, the i20's on-road price already spans from 5 - 9 lakhs. There isn't room for another Hyundai hatchback at the price, or a little over. Second, this looks way too similar to the i20. Lastly, a 1.0 liter will be too small and the 1.6 won't get any excise benefits.

+1. Not that the current i20 looks bad, but I would have loved to see the rear from this car on the i20.

- Somehow I am not a big fan of the vertical air con vents on the center of the dashboard.

Re: Hyundai HB20

Interesting. The HB20 looks like a cheaper alternative to the i20. It is;

1. Shorter by 95 mm
2. Thinner by 30 mm
3. Shorter by 35 mm (+ shorter wheelbase by 25 mm)
4. No ACC
5. No Bluetooth connectivity
6. 'Less enthusiastic' fluidic theme to the sheet metal (compare the doors)

In summary looks as something which is more appealing than the i10 but not replace the i20 or Verna Hatchback.

Re: Hyundai HB20

1) Looks good - Expecially the Rear compared to the i20.
2) Great Interiors: Though I did not like the manual AC controls for a new car in this segment.
3) Why would Hyundai Replace the i20? or add this to the same segment? Can't go higher or lower either.
4) Nope this just may not make it to India unless i20 sales numbers go down a year or two down the line and they need a significant refresh. But they would need to maintain the current engine range.

Re: Hyundai HB20

Looks a bit like on stilts, as in disproportionate as compared to the current i20. Maybe I am old fashioned, but I dont like the current trend of cars which look too tall and the tyres too small (a la new fluidic verna).

The interiors sure look great and flashy. Dont know where this will fit in though, with the i20 and the i30 being already there in the market. Maybe the B in HB is for Brazil?

Re: Hyundai HB20

Hyundai's HB20 fails the Latin NCAP, scores 1 star.

Hyundai's HB20 sold in Brazil has scored just 1 star in the Latin NCAP, down from previous 4 stars.

Hyundai HB20

Quote:
While 'Made in Brazil' Hyundai HB20 - with two airbags - had fared extremely well in a similar test back in 2019 - scoring four star in safety ratings, the results of the latest audit test failed to impress. "The result of the audit test shows that the model offered lower protection on the adult occupant's chest than in the original test, narrowly exceeding the maximum biomechanical limits allowed for the body in the side impact test," Latin NCAP informed, adding it has the right to audit any sponsored test at any time.

Latin NCAP in its reports concluded then that the hatchback has a one-star safety rating for adult occupants and three stars for child occupants. "According to the Latin NCAP 2016-2019 protocol, under which the vehicle was evaluated, a critical area of the body with red color limits the result to no more than one star," it stated.
