Isn't there alerady one called CrossPolo in some markets - most probably South African markets?

On second thought, CrossPolo is basically the same car wih some mods. But I guess the compact SUV would be different car altogether - platform sharing.

Volkswagen is poised to enter the booming compact-SUV segment with a new model based on the next-generation .

The Polo SUV will be the first compact Volkswagen to be spun off the VW Group’s versatile new MQB platform, underpinnings that will be used across an expanded next-generation Polo range.

‘A0 segment’ — VW’s code for supermini-sized models — was at the top of the firm’s priority list for new model development.

The Polo SUV would be adapted for different markets. A more basic version is likely to offered in emerging markets, while European versions will be more technically sophisticated and premium in both look and feel.

Cheers!

The T-Roc is slightly bigger than a Polo at 4,179 mm long, 1,831 mm wide and 1,501 mm tall (164.5 x 72.1 x 59.1 inches), but significantly smaller than the production Tiguan.
Tiguan, Touareg, Taigun: VW has not just discovered the segment of SUVs early for, but now will display their intentions at the Geneva show.

With a length of 4.18 meters, the T-Roc has not quite golf format and sorted between the Taigun (3.86 meters) and the Tiguan (4.43 meters).

One of the highlights of the four passenger interior is the fully-digital 12.3-inch instrument panel, which seems to be a recurring theme lately in the VW Group. There's also a tablet-like, user-configurable infotainment screen and, digital climate controls.

The T-Roc sits on VW's scalable MQB platform (same as the TT, Golf etc.) and according to the Germans, it weighs in at 1,420kg (3,130 pounds). Motivation is provided by the same 181hp (184PS) and 380Nm 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel found on the Golf GTD.

Paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with Haldex coupling. It can run up to a top speed of 210 km/h (130mph), accelerate to 100 km/h (62mph) in 6.9 seconds and return a combined fuel consumption of 4.9 l/100 km (58.6mpg UK or 48.0 mpg US) with 129 g/km of CO2.

Disguised in the body of a Tiguan, VW's mid-size SUV in the international market, this mule is believed to be chassis testing for the new T-Roc, which should reach the market in two to three years' time
Quote:

At 4179mm long, the T-Roc is some 200mm shorter than the current Tiguan, accounting for the shorter wheelbase seen on this test mule. VW is believed to be targeting a kerb weight of 1420kg for the production model.
Based on the flexible MQB platform, power for the production T-Roc should come from a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder common rail diesel engine with 181bhp and 38.7kgm of torque. Drive will be sent through a six-speed dual-clutch auto transmission, while four-wheel drive and selectable driving modes are also likely to be offered.

VW contemplates the Polo based CUV for India.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...orward-12.html

VW shelves the entry level compact SUV Taigun shown in 2012, will now bring the T Cross as the concept for the C-SUV.

It is all set to reveal an entry level compact SUV.

The New Volkswagen T-Cross concept to hint at Nissan Juke rival and will be shown at the Geneva show.

Quote:

The new high-riding Volkswagen is described as a sister model to the earlier T-Roc – a larger VW Golf-based SUV concept revealed in 2014 and due to reach showrooms in five-door form in 2017.

The T-Cross and T-Roc form part of a volume-segment SUV model strategy being fast-tracked
Quote:

will position production versions of the T-Cross and T-Roc underneath the Tiguan and Touareg in a part of the market that is currently experiencing large growth for SUV models
The models will be based on the German car maker’s highly flexible MQB platform and are planned to be offered with the choice of either petrol, diesel or plug-in petrol-electric hybrid drivetrains, together with either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
Quote:

The reference to the letter “T” in their names suggest the T-Cross and T-Roc will continue the Volkswagen tradition in which each of its existing SUV models have received a model name beginning with the letter “T”, including the Tiguan and Touareg.
