JD Power VDS ... a study undertaken by JD Power, which gives some insight on vehicle reliability of various brands(in the US) ... some of the results might surprise you ... it might shatter some myths about jap car reliability* ... which according to this study is restricted only to Honda and Toyota ... and you'll be surprised to see where Merc is at.

In a study based on 'number of problems per 100 cars'

Toyota owned LEXUS came in first
Toyota in 7th ... honda in 9th
ford an Chevy in 12th and 13th
hyundai rated 21st
other jap co's like nissan , mitsubishi and suzuki ranked 26th,27th and 31st repectively.
KIA ranked last ...

Merc at 28th and Audi at 32nd(gadget failure maybe??)

*before anyone pounces on me or the findings of JD Power about reliability of their fav jap cars, you should know that this study was not just about the 'engine',but the whole car.

study based on customer feedback on 3 year old cars(2002-2004)

Cheers !

Long live Lexus.....

Hmm.....Mercedes seem to have improved a bit, though their place should be the top (for all the hype of the three-pointed star).

i agree ... it should be up there with lexus ... heard quite a few stories about electronic failure in mercs ... maybe GTO can enlighten us on that :D (j/k)

audi was a bit surprising too.

I am surprised to see Lincoln LS on the list in the entry luxury car segment. They were known to have quite a few issues. Even edmunds.com's long term LS had some serious problems with it.

Oh yeah.... Very good piece of Info...

Thanks a lot mate....
