re: 2014 Mercedes C-Class: Now officially unveiled (page 5)

Somehow, Mercs started looking like they are designed by hyundai's fluidic team. The old merc c class with 4 oval lamps upfront were a class apart. The new designs are good but they dont have that stand apart feel that their anscestors used to have.

PS : It's my personal opinion and no offense meant to any

I agree! That freshness which came along with some of the recent launches is now turning to be a bit of monotony. And no harm in making the car look youthful, but it’s all getting a bit too curvy. In Europe, the CLA is already getting flak for being an automobile with style over substance. I hope the new C retains some of the traditional lines.

When it comes to sedans, I can understand Mercedes’ business view. We criticize them for being too Asian-looking nowadays, but the fact is majority of their sales volume is coming from the Far East. China is the biggest automobile market now, and for Merc it could soon be more important than traditional markets like the USA and Germany. Close to 50% of the S-Class sales worldwide is from China.

Where would you put your money if you were building these cars?

The reason they are falling in India with low volumes is for the simple fact now they have competition with other Brands. Mercedes for some reason is still living in a bubble that they dont need to push their vehicles with new models or get aggressive in marketing. How much do you see a dealer or the manufacturer pushing the AMG's or even bringing new models. Its only when someone else announces it that Mercedes wakes up. The B, A, GLA, CLA all these could have been brought much earlier and the Indian public would have lapped them all.

Those are seriously ugly ac vents.
Why would a luxury car maker try such weird designs? I think the current design language of BMW is what they should be influenced by.

Probably not. They used to offer one model of the C-Class (C250 Sport) with a manual but they've stopped now.
Currently the only Mercedes you can own with a stick is the SLK250.

If this is the C class then it's a disappointment.

- The rear design doesn't seem well integrated.
- Those round air con vents & faux wood accents seem to be from a Chinese car!

I like it . Vents looks too crowded . Two instead of three would have been ideal but it may not be as effective in cooling.

I hope the new age look of screen poping out don't go to E & S as it looks too sporty in my opinion.

The rear 3/4 view looks a tad similar to Amaze.

An observation : Today I saw an A-Class driven by a 70 Yr old man and it looked awkward. Its not about the age but someone needs a real good dressing sense to feel a part of the car.
