Maserati's 2014 Ghibli Sedan has been caught testing in the snow wearing Modified quattroporte bodies. Ghibli Sedan will fight with the likes of 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF. Just look carefully at the photos and you'll understand that this ain't a Quattroporte due to it's shortened length than the QP.

Codenamed M157, some believe it to be based on the Chrysler 300 platform. As for the heart, the turbocharged V6 that debuted in the new quattroporte is expected in this car. V8 and diesels are likely to be introduced some time later. Production is most likely to take place at the old Bertone plant.

Looks like everyone is going retro. First the Mini, then the Fiat 500 now the sexy Ghibli. Good to see another famous name being resurrected. Way to go Fiat.

I read somewhere that 'Ghibli' is going to replace GranTurismo?? I would be sad if this happens. GranTurismo is a hot looking car while Ghibli is more of a tuned down Quattroporte? By looks it does seems that way.

The rear hunch looks a lot like a the db5/mustang.
Unless the camouflage itself has structural shapes.

Hi Hammerhead. The GranTursimo will live on, don't worry :) Next gen development has begun and is coming by 2015. The Ghibli is just a smaller lux sedan they are introducing.

No this won't happen anytime soon! Gran Turismo has already been received with good views by media and is one of the most beautiful italian cars on sale today. And as well as the production of Ghibli will be in old bertone plant amd not the modena plant, where Gran turismo and Quattroporte are build. Hope this clears all your doubts about discontinuation of Granturismo!

OT but the only thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word "Ghibli" is the famous Japanese film studio for making classics like Spirited Away and The Secret world of Arrietty.

The name Ghibli is based on the Arabic name for the sirocco, or Mediterranean wind.

Maybe Maserati is taking cues from this name or these Jap anime movies produced by Studio Ghibli and will incorporate them in their design?! Or not.

Why would Maserati take cues from Japanese Anime movies?If this was a sarcastic comment then its fine.:)

Ghibli is a very famous Maserati model from the late 60s,and a very beautiful one at that.Although that was a 2 door GT.They also made another version in the 90s.

Maserati like some other manufacturers like to re-use their old names,like Aston which reuses Virage,Vanquish and resurrected Rapide.So just like the Quattroporte,which was used after 2 decades another name is being reused and this time its the Ghibli.

Yes Ghibli is a wind,it so many other Maserati models named after a wind.Ghibli,Merak,Shamal,Mistral,Bora,Khamsin and so on.

VW is another maker who likes its winds.Bora,Golf(Gulf winds),Scirroco,Jetta etc.

Engines : New twin-turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 and 3.8 litre V8, Diesel 3.0 V6 to follow soon.

Compete with the 5 series, E class and XF, how low can Maserati bring its pricing to rival these guys? The Quattroporte starts at $127,000 while the BMW 5 series starts at $47,000, coming up with a model thats nearly a third of its current cheapest model's price will be a task. Hope it still retains the Maserati brand values rather than devalue the brand.

Most high end car makers are looking at cheaper models in a big way ,only time will tell how it affect the brands overall.

Thats what the buzz is that it will compete in the 5 series bracket.

But from the looks from the render & teaser image it looks more like a 4 door coupe, which makes me believe that it may be launched a segment above competing with the BMW 6 GC, Audi A7, CLS category :thumbs up

With so many 'leaks' recently, I'm beginning to wonder if they actually are leaks or a publicity stunt by their manufacturers Scorcher ; ). Oh and thanks for sharing, This is truly stunning.
I hope it sounds like the quattroporte and goes like it as well. Going by the images posted by you it looks like its much smaller than the quattroporte, Is it an entry level sports sedan? I was under the impression it was going to cost more than the quattroporte.

IMHO it is all a planned leaking, to bulid up the hype before the launch.

Oh ! It sure will sound as good afterall it will get a 3.0 bi-turbo V6 (Petrol).

Lower-powered one totalling around 330bhp and the uprated car over 400bhp.

Diesel will be priced @ £50,000, while the petrol models will cost upwards of £60k :)
