Jaguar XJR Revealed

This is what we get when the super luxurious XJ gets the "R" badge;

Revealed @ the NY Show

Jaguar is beefing up its R performance lineup with the 2014 XJR.

The above single image of the car appears to show some trim and badging changes.

The company describes the XJR as an "extraordinarily opulent machine with more than expected levels of interior luxury." It said the car's steering suspension and braking enhancements have been tested at the company's Nurburgring Test Center.

"The Jaguar XJR is a British performance machine that delivers emotionally and dynamically on the road and on the track," said Andy Goss, president of Jaguar Land Rover North America, in a statement on Wednesday.

Supercharged 5.0-litre V8, putting out 542bhp.

The XJR could be the fastest car in the range, thanks to its lightweight aluminium chassis.

At 1765kg, the current range-topper (the 503bhp XJ Supersport) is 20kg lighter than an XKR-S coupe - and it's expected the XJR will stay very close to the XJ SS's kerbweight.

0-62mph in 4 secs

With the above figures its sure that this is one seriously quick KITTY

Thanks for the share Karan.
Fifth Gear season 20 if i am correct, Jason pits the S8 vs the R8 and boy o boy the S8 beats the thoroughbred supercar by more than a second.
These limo's are scarily fast and mighty powerful.

re: Jaguar XJR Revealed

Love this car!
I own one of its predecessors, a 2003XJR. 4.0l, supercharged V8.
Nicest car I've ever owned.
In all honesty I like the old, very sleek, low Jaguar look of my XJR over the new one.

Still this XJR looks great and its interior is fabulous. I seem to recall TopGear even giving/inventing a special reward/price for it.

I've had the pleasure of driving one of these earlier new XJs for several hours back in the UK. Great car! It took the sales guy several hours to talk me through all the various options and settings. Love that!

None of the XJRs are exactly slow, mine does 0-62mph in just over 5 seconds. This version shaves of more than a second. If you've never driven a high powered car this is really a great experience. You just stomp on the throttle and you get launched. Overtaking another car becomes a whole new experience. When you give it the beans these superchargers sound great too.

These cars are not exactly cheap, but they depreciate faster than you can trow a stick at it. Within 4-5 years this new XJR will cost, second hand, less than a new Ford Fiesta. (At least in Western Europe and the USA)

They are a bit thirsty, although this one is probably better than mine. Driving the way I do, I'm lucky to get 1:7 l/km. Steady highway driving at 120km/h might push it up to 1:8 l/km.

Dont know about India, but in the UK, most of Western Europe and the USA Jaguar Dealers score extremely high in customer satisfaction. They've come a long way, because only ten years ago they where at the bottom of the surveys and now they're leading

Re: Jaguar XJR Revealed

The XJR is having the same engine present in the XFR-S ;

Jaguar XJR Revealed-images.jpg

XFR-S does the 0-100 sprint in 4.4 secs.

The interesting thing is that the XFR-S weighs about 1987 kgs

& the larger XJ R weighs less i.e. 1870 Kgs (XJ Super Sport weight taken for reference)

So the 0-100 timing of about 4 secs is quite achievable.

Also note the weight of an F10 M5 is 1945 kgs

* Weights as per Jaguar website

M5 dethroned. Total drool stuff. Raw power + luxury = more buyers !

XF-RS weighing lesser than the XJ-R means that Jaguar is trying very hard to enhance the performance of the XJ-R. Any possibilities of XJ-RS

BTW, those are.

Cheers,

That is a stunning car.But I don't get the point of it. Is it supposed to replace the XJ SuperSports or co-exist?

The M5 goes against the XF-R/XF-RS. Don't see how an XJR "dethrones" an M5. Correct me if I'm wrong, the XJR will compete with the likes of the S63/65, 760Li etc.

Cheers!

A new high-performance Jaguar XJR has been unveiled on the eve of the New York show.
The new Jaguar XJR, which is powered by a 542bhp supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine, has been unveiled on the eve of the New York Motor Show.

Capable of covering 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds (three tenths faster than the 503bhp XJ Supersports) and hitting a limited top speed of 174mph, the XJR brings supercar performance to the XJ range.

The mechanicals have been tailored for faster driving, too, including an upgraded steering system with valves taken from the F-Type, quicker shifts from the eight-speed automatic gearbox and recalibrated suspension honed at the Nurburgring.

Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Design Director said: "This XJR is the flagship XJ and I'm delighted we've got it back into the range. This is a premium luxury supercar that also has an extremely purposeful look to it. This car will surprise, there's no doubt about it."
The XJR will go on sale this summer, with a starting price of £92,500.

I agree, I dont get it, but Jaguar have to do it otherwise the AMG guys will have one up on them. Making such a large saloon go this fast doesnt make much sense.

Its not going up against the 760 of the s600 as those are soft saloons the R range of jaguars are stiff suspension and hard on the road with little rubber etc so not good to drive on long journeys which is why you want a an XJ.

Not to say that its a bad car but better to buy an XKR and also a XJ v8 long

XJR supersaloon is finally reviewed;

Autoexpress UK;

Brief verdict;
Quote:
The Jaguar XJR is a strange mix. Luxury saloons like the XJ are all about comfort, but there’s something appealing about a car that mixes this with brutal performance and lively handling. For most people, the diesel XJ has enough performance and driver engagement, but for those who want more, the XJR’s style and character are hard to ignore.

Brief Verdict;

For those seeking the ultimate XJ, the R is a worthy adversary to the Mercedes S63 and Maserati Quattroporte V8 with which it has been designed to compete.
