Very elegant and proportionate looking car there. The boot integration is done so well that it does not give any signs of hatchback origins.

Both engines are revised versions of motors that already exist in the Volkswagen group's engine line up. A 7 speed DSG automatic gearbox will drive the front wheels of the A3 sedan in India.
A small correction. The three A3 model lines are the regular 3-door hatchback, slightly longer 5-door hatchback (dubbed as the Sportback), and the A3 sedan. It’s their naming convention that they add the name Sportback when they add two rear doors to their 3-door/coupe models (A1 sportback, A5 sportback etc.). And the 7-speed DSG is Audi’s version (S-tronic DSG), and not the regular DQ200 DSG.

Re: Audi bets big on the A3 sedan

Wow, this is one seriously good-looking car. Wish they had retained the dashboard design of A4/6 in A3 too. Those round vents look a lil too funky in what really is a serious, grown up sedan.
A3 will singe the competition, hands down.

All I can say is 'Go Audi, Go!'What a lovely, elegant and practical looking car the A3 is! Worth aspiring to, without a doubt.

Re: Audi bets big on the A3 sedan

This car makes the A4 seem a little overpriced. But I'm sure the new Octavia will make the A3 sedan seem overpriced.

The A3 sedan is undoubtedly a brilliantly designed automobile. And it does look better than the CLA in my opinion. The rear of the CLA looks chincy and very Korean. The A3 on the other hand exudes typical German elegance, read: understated. The way I like it!

The interior looks like a carry-forward from the hatch, and even though it isn't particularly a bad thing, it doesn't seem to fit the sedan image that this car effortlessly carries.

The S3 should be an absolute firecracker.

That's is a hot hot S3 and not the regular A3 so can't be compared to the normal A3 which we will be getting here.

The round AC vents scream Jaguar XJ

Doesn't that side profile look too similar to a vento with large wheels???

It sure looks great, but it's the same old Audi party trick. Some smaller Indian spec wheels (Yes, they are from the Vento), and she's totally lost in the crowd here, apart from the LED illumination.

Not that I,m against this design philosophy, just an observation. Audi definitely sets the bar high in automotive design.

Nope it doesn't , at least in these pics since the angle of both the pics is different.

Back to the discussion, having experienced the last gen Audi A3 I can only say that this one will give the 1 and A a run for their money! The pricing will be of paramount importance for Audi, price it close to the A4 or Q3 and the A3 fizzles out.
I am big fan of the new sporty interiors as the current A4,Q5 AND the gigantic q7 interiors are too similar to each other, the A6 stands out alone.

Re: Audi bets big on the A3 sedan

I think it is because Vento design is inspired by Audi.
Take a black Vento and replace the VW logo with the Audi. I am sure you can fool half of the world

This one looks excellent and I love it

Re: Audi lifts the veils off the MQB-based A3 and S3 sedans

Autocar India’s first drive report of the Audi A3 sedan. The car looks sleek, proportionate and very European. IMO, this looks much better than the curvy CLA.
But other than the looks, I am not so impressed with the overall package. If we go by the review, the base A3 will have the 1.6TDI from Vento. Considering that the Merc A-Class is doing pretty well (with an average engine range), this should be a blockbuster if launched in a similar price range.

For someone who look beyond the skin (logo), the upcoming Skoda Octavia which shares the same platform/engine variants makes much more sense.

Audi A3 to be priced below 25 Lakhs, to be launched on 2014 says Audi India head!

OFFICIAL: The Audi A3 sedan which was officially unveiled only a couple of months ago is one of the cars developed especially for markets such as India, Russia and China. The A3 sedan is an extension of the A3 hatchback and carries a spacious 435 liter boot. At a distance, the A3 sedan looks like a mini A4.

Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India, spoke to NDTV regarding the A3 sedan’s India plans. Mr. Perschke says that the sedan would launch in the country in 2014 (we estimate it as early 2014, perhaps at the Auto Expo) as Audi India will focus on the locally assembled and cut price Q3 Sport for 2013.

Mr. Perschke says that Audi is currently discussing “when is the sweet timing to bring the A3 sedan into India”. The car commenced production only on June 12 at Audi’s facility in Gyor, Hungary. This is the only plant that makes the sedan currently.
When asked about the price, Mr. Perschke says that “definitely it’s (A3 Sedan’s price) going to be sub 25 lakhs, that’s for sure… Typical of Audi, it will have a juicy price”.
Given that the Q3 Sport is itself going to be priced at around 25 lakhs, we can’t say we weren’t expecting this. In Europe, the base A3 Sedan with a 1.4-liter TFSI engine has been priced at 25,000 euros (INR 19.24 lakhs). We think Audi will compete with the A Class in terms of price, given their aggressiveness in the Indian market.
Would the A3 Sport back/hatchback make its way to India? Perschke says that he may consider the hatch later on as he believes in the SUV and the sedan body style for India.

Extremely interesting car which can possibly change the Indian car market forever by offering an Audi Sedan at a 25L OTR price point. This car has the potential to really set the sales charts on fire. 2014 is going to be a very interesting year with the A3 coming and the supposedly BMW 1 series too heading to our shores.

Audi A3 is going to give a tough fight to Mercedes CLA sedan which I assume is also going to debut in 2014.The Merc looks coupe like and is more flamboyant but not sure how well they price it.
