The Ford Escort name is making a comeback at the Shanghai motor show as a new compact saloon concept, with a possibility go into production – just for the Chinese market. Apparently Chinese love the brand name and considering the market size, their preferences are hard to ignore. Ford has no plans to get this elsewhere in the world.

It is the same as the Aston Martin Focus featured on that Top gear episode. I thought that was a one time thing but It would appear this design grill is now going to be part of their new design language going forward perhaps. Overall I personally like the look of this vehicle.
Is it just me or does it look more like a european car than an american made one?.

Oh yes, this is much cleaner. Personally I find the Ecosport's face a bit over-styled.

The reports suggest that the China Escort concept is smaller than the new Focus. And yes, this Aston Martin face is part of their new design language. Even the recently facelifted Fiesta got the same face.

The front is similar to the Eco sport, specially the grill. Looks better on the eco sport, it's seems big for this car.

This model should definitely make it to India. After long I am seeing such a clean looking executive sedan(I still have a soft corner for the Accent). I think Ford should replace the Classic with this model, a befitting replacement.

'New face' was long due from Ford and IMO though it looks similar to Aston's its quiet different. IIRC B-Max concept displayed this 'Front grill' design for the first time.
I like this design. More like European then US.

Ford's current 'front end' design in India is taken from earlier B-Max concept. I hope to see Ford changing 'face' of all their current offering to this new grill just after they launch Eco-Sports.

Back then I really liked the older Ford Escort design. I always thought it would have been a looker with soft top

Looks pretty clean for a model specific to China - in fact it looks pretty good. The Escort model name has a pretty decent recall in India too, perhaps they should try it here as Ford is one manufacturer who have got their act wrong despite having started off in the premium end.

Gives a new twist to the term Chinese Escort, though....

This would certainly be well received in India! Ford escort has a decent recall anywhere in India. If they don't release it here, missed opportunity!

The Escort was a pretty "solid" car when it was sold in India and back then it was also considered premium which is why it sold at a premium price. Now that there are better cars to give it competition bringing this latest avatar to India at a very competitive price might just do the trick for Ford!

Oh you've caught my attention with that post. Is it the same vehicle that went up against the maruti esteem in 1995?
Do you remember what price it was sold at? I think the esteem was 6ish L.

IMHO Ford should try to pitch this model in line with Vento / Rapid. Although on the looks department, the new Ford Fiesta looks contemporary but this Car will definitely have its followers. Ford might use it to replace the Aging Fiesta Classic or as an entry level neutral family sedan market with Ford Brand name.

Ford should bring this to India, period. It should tick all the boxes in terms of looks (not too gaudy, not too bland) and features. Price it well by localization and they have a winner. Maybe this would be what the fiesta should've been for ford. After years of pricing themselves out with great cars (read mondeo) and taking too much time to bring in new products, I hope that Ford India have learnt their lessons.

Maybe this could be the perfect followup to the success of the Ikon and the Fiesta (old). But I am not sure whether they should name it as Escort; The old escort was a terrible car, but then again, when it was launched, it had only the Daewoo cielo as a competitor, which meant that it was looked upon as a premium car - it's all relative afterall! So the name could work as well. I say bring it on!

I agree to all above, Ford should now drop it's new fiesta and may deliberate on the bringing this fine design to Indian shores. The design is looks mature and has a very classy appeal. It may definitely give few a good competition.
