Jaguar F-Type Coupe - Now Launched

The long rumored coupe version of the achingly gorgeous Jaguar F-Type has showed up at the patent office.

Can't wait for this one.

Engine options will be shared with the convertible, so expect choices to include a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 340 HP (250 kW), a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 380 HP (279 kW) and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 495 HP (364 kW). The company could also offer a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 240 HP (177 kW) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque.

The F-Type Coupe is expected to go on sale next year

Jaguar F Type Coupe

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/jaguar/...coupe-pictures

An interesting set of pictures that I have come across while surfing the net. A coupe version of the f type has been speculated for long. But from what I can gather from the spy shots, the hard top isn't really impressing me much. Looks similar to the design language followed on the ferrari ff.

So what do you guys feel about the looks???

Thanks for sharing. I think it wasn't a rumour/speculation that Jaguar would launch a coupe version but rather fact. They just for some reason decided to launch the convertible first.
The images in the article you've linked reminds me of the 911 rear more than anything...

Now I'm going to give you some homework to do.

I want you to Google an image of the old Jaguar E-Type coupe and post it here if you could.

Why the E-Type? Well, the new F-Type is sort of like a spiritual successor to the legendary E. And the E-Type coupe looks more like a shooting-brake / fastback than a proper 'coupe'. So naturally, the F had to retain this design element.

Now that you mention it, it does male sense. But shouldn't jaguar jave simply concentrated on making it look better rather than trying to follow the e types design language? I still feel a proper boot like the one on the soft top version would have helped it score more points for looks.

My God! you are right suhaas!.
It does indeed have the fastback back, not so much the 911 reminder as I originally stated heh. Similar to the Ford Mustang fastback as well. Attached for all to see:

I dont think Jaguar would take the bhp that high..600 max is my guess for the final product.

By the way 7th of July is the India Launch of the F type.

For some reason, I have always preferred coupés over convertibles, and that is one of the most awesome looking coupés I have ever seen, which I think is to be expected as it is based on one of the best looking convertibles ever made.

That said, I find the 700 BHP horsepower figure a little bit unbelievable as the current top-end V8S has 495 BHP, and I would think for an R-S version, the BHP bump would be ~100 BHP, maybe max 150 BHP.

You just beat me to it. 700 BHP is just too much.

Just curiousity, I only know a bit about patenting, primarily in the software world, but what is patented on a car by means of a photo? The shape, dimension or very specific design elements?

This version is said to be carrying over technology from the C-X75. It will be a hybrid if it's ever made. We have to wait and watch, what sort of technology is being used in cars in the future and whether Jag's competitors are using the same and obviously, Tata's / JLR's financial strength.
Jaguar had been living in Aston Martin's shadow for a long time. Now that they are no longer owned by the same group, they've started pushing their development programmes at much faster pace than before.
Their most important car is the upcoming 3 Series / A4 / C Class rival. It's a money spinning segment. But, it's a difficult segment to compete in. The current 3 is a very good allrounder. If Jaguar fails, they could have to drop some plans.

Jaguar just can't get over the fact that the C-X75 has been killed. Now they intend to put it's heart in some other car. But in a way, this obsession will definitely prove to be good for them in the future.
