Any unibody utility vehicle should be called a crossover,right? I mean there are some SUVs that we call SUVs just because they look like SUVs - but, they are truly unibody construction underneath - like the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Anyway, I would think Jaguar would make supermarket SUVs and not true offroaders - that would be left to the corporate sibling Land Rover to tackle.

FYI none of the Land Rovers, except the Defender, is based on a ladder frame chassis. All are monocoque structures.

Though yes, Jaguar will go more for cross-overs rather than SUVs. Though to LR loyalists, even the Freelander and Evoque will be called crossovers and not SUVs, despite there formidable off-road abilities.

I think so because it appears so....
Although I do think using the SUV monicker to refer to something like the X1 is quite.....entertaining.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Just the way they have tuned the suspension and transmission and traction abilities make those vehicles really capable off road while retaining the on road comfort and efficiency.

Back on topic, I can't wait to see front end shots of this car. If it has indeed been influenced by the F-types design language or retains the look of the XJ/FR etc.

I'm not in favour of this move by JLR. But I guess they have to conform to the nuances of the automotive market if they want a proper slice of the pie, not just a sliver. It is, after all, a business.

I had the exact reaction as you when I first read that JLR were planning Jag SUVs. But I have come around to it.

There is a market for a class of SUVs which have almost negligible off-road ability, have more curvy coupe like profiles, while still being high riding SUVs.

Now such a UV, definitely sits under the Jag brand better than it does under the Land Rover brand. The Jag will probably stick to a few very very soft-roaders.

At a time, when even Bentley and Porsche are going to be making SUVs, I dont think its a big deal if Jag has an SUV.

Meanwhile somebody's managed to fish out an official looking photograph of what appears to be the C-X17 SUV Concept, which will eventually dictate the final form of Jaguar's new luxury soft-roader. It'll be interesting to see how Jaguar's sensual lines take to a slightly raised platform.

The Jaguar SUV concept does have that WOW effect. The front end is very distinctive, while still retaining that controlled aggression. Should be one of the stars at the Frankfurt motor show.

As a long time Jaguar fan, I'm not really in favour of this move. But, Jag is on a roll at the moment and they are fighting MB, Audi and BMW which have a full range of cars including SUVs. This one looks like a soft roader like most of its competitors. I'm sure it will do well.
If you want a serious SUV however, get a Land Rover product or a G-Wagen.
