Mistubishi has revealed their new "Global Compact Sedan" called Attrage based on the Mirage hatchback. This will take the Sunny/Scala the sorts head-on.

Under the hood, the Attrage uses the same 1.2-liter three-cylinder MIVEC engine as the Mirage hatch. It produces 76bhp of power and 100Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox are the available transmission options.

Why is this segment so bloated around the middle? All of them look like they are expecting a Hatch very soon.

A 1.2 Litre 3 cylinder Petrol Engine for a Sedan? I don't think this car will be able to make any push to already sinking Mitsubish sales in India.

They need something revolutionary or something catchy to bring the customers back to their showrooms. This doesnt seem to be capable of doing that untill they price it at 4 lakhs.

The car looks disproportionate, the tires are puny and the power insufficient. Mitsubishi, anyways is not very good with pricing. Anything above 6L for the top and this wouldn't sell. Amaze/ Dzire at the lower end and Sunny/Scala/Others at the upper end leave no space for this to sell.

Best,
Tapish

Looks Sunny'ish but not sure how appealing this would be for a Scala/Sunny buyer. I thought Mitsubishi will consider larger sedans like Galant with 2.4 liter MIVEC engine than a compact sedan market which is so tight already.

Sad to see its bloated looks. It looks as hideous as its potential competitors.

So far Mitsubishi has produced great-looking sedans like the Lancer and Cedia. I wonder what went wrong with their design department. Going by sales of Dzire, Sunny and others, perhaps they got lulled into thinking that bulging cars sell well in India.

Uh ! This looks like a collage of parts pic put together in photoshop, by an amateur. Oh wait, is the design team from TATA ?

And this comes from the makers of the Lancer (all generations of it, especially the Indian one), a little hard to come to terms with.

This car need not be as bad as we making this out. Yes, it is a bit disappointing product from the makers of Lancer Evo, but, it is not bad as a product overall. It is pretty spacious cars (even for the hatch - Mirage) & the viby 1.2L petrol is rated 4.6L/100km, i.e. around 21.5 kmpl (courtesy the Coefficient of Drag of 0.29 Cd) & goes in 9.6M circle only (4.8m turning radius, almost as good as the Amaze).

It is supposedly better handling than the Amaze as well, but, alas won't come to India . IMO, a 4-cylinder diesel engine will make sure this sells in India in good numbers.

I would buy a pre owned lancer anyday instead of this fat looking 3 cylinder sedan.
They have copied the sunny/scala design and plonked in their small engine and will probably price it wrong.
That will make it 3 wrongs. Their sales just might take the wrong turn again !

Well as was discussed previously in this forum in Mitsubishi Mirage thread, Mitsubishi is currently focusing on SUVs and they are not going to bring this car to India in near future. It might in fact be launched in our neighboring markets to further disappoint the Indian Mitsubishi fans.:deadhorse

Have a look at this piece of old news.

P.S: Pakistan also got the new Lancer in 2008, but we are still waiting.

IAB have uploaded the Thai brochure of the car, wherein the company seems to gunning for Sunny (Almera in Thailand & Amaze). Here is the link to their article:

Well, the fuss about it's apparently lousy looks is understandable, but let's face it, there's not much you can do as a designer when you have to brew a sedan under four meters in length or thereabouts, that too from a hatchback, which is relatively tall(the Mirage in this case). Given the said limitations, there leaves very less space for aesthetic pleasure.

I don't know what the hell is written there, but let's give it a fair shot at the side profile which has the possibility of growing on one. Doesn't look half as bad as the old DZire.

However, get one in black, lower it a bit, put some GT-R V-Spec replica rims along with some violet tints, things might look a bit more exciting! :D

And yes, the photo is not a PS job it is real (see the same on their official page ass well). Sad is the name that supposed to be coming from English word "Attractive". What a famine of ideas of Mitsubishi. Their car names used to be as legendary as their machines. Lancer, Colt, Galant! All from the HORSE power. Now they have ran out of ideas and this name just does sound like a car and sure not like a Mitsubishi.
On one side they are bragging about going hybrid performance cars and suddenly here comes the run-of-the-mill Pony. What did I say? May be "Pony" could have been a better name for this car.
